FFA Monthly Update
February
Gold Rated Officer Books
On Friday, January 26th, Braelynne Stuard and Jaidyn Triggs submitted their Secretary and Treasurers Officer Books for evaluation. Both officers received a Gold Rating, the highest score possible on the books. Jaidyn had to keep accurate track of all finances going in and out of the program, and Braelynne had to keep track of all meeting minutes and chapter correspondence throughout the year. Great job!
FFA Leadership
AFNR 1
AFNR 1 kicked off the year with animal science. Students were able to select an animal they were most interested in and focus their research on it.
AFNR 2
Agbusiness
In January, students finished up their sales presentations and are beginning to learn about business laws/regulations and agencies. Students started the unit off talking about ethics and evaluating ethical scenarios about if they were an issue or not and how they would handle the situation.
STEM Connect
STEM Connect rounded out the semester learning about bio products, including biofuel and bioplastic. Students were even able to create a silicone like bioplastic during their final lab.
Vet Science
Students have been learning about animal health this month. They have been identifying diseases and parasites. Students practiced giving intramuscular and subcutaneous vaccines on chicken pieces. They then cut open the chicken pieces to see how the "medication" would be dispersed through the animal.

Department Student of the Month
Braelynne Stuard- FFA Leadership: Braelynne has exemplified being in a learner’s mindset this past month. She actively contributed to the ag comm class project in FFA Leadership by providing ideas and working with her classmates to formulate a plan. She has worked on her public speaking skills and will be competing in the ag comm event next month, which is a new career development event for her. Additionally, she has been a great friend, classmate and peer to those around her. Finally, Braelynne has been serving at the FFA secretary this year as a part of the FFA executive team. She has diligently kept accurate records of our chapter and recently received a gold rating on her officer book!
Supervised Early Release Article by Ariana Nagel
For my Supervised Early Release Program I shadow at Whitehouse High Point Animal Hospital. I choose to do this because I am interested in becoming a Veterinarian after college. I have always loved animals and knew that I would want to do something with them as a career. I have shadowed there sporadically in the past, but have since made it a regular occurrence through the Supervised Early Release Program. Shadowing at High Point Animal Hospital has helped to confirm my chosen career path.
While at High Point I observe veterinarians do both surgery as well as general appointments. Surgeries most often include spays, neuters, and dental cleanings. I have learned how to take stats on animals while under anesthesia as well as how to recover them as they come out of anesthesia. The veterinarians also provide questions to any answers I have about procedures. I’ve started to pick up on what certain symptoms mean as well as the uses for various medications.
