Are you an arts educator looking to weave graphic design into your curriculum? Are you wondering what skills you can teach that are relevant and required by today’s design colleges, firms and advertising agencies?

Join us for a three-day workshop with researchers and designers from the University of Minnesota’s K-12 Outreach initiative, Design High, to answer these and other burning questions like: “What is ‘design thinking’ and should I get some?”

Day 1 will be spent generating ideas and strategies to include design thinking principles & processes in your existing arts curriculum. We will use hands-on methods to identify challenges and opportunities for making a change in your curriculum. You will meet industry professionals, see examples of human-centered design, and learn about trends in the broader design field.

Day 2 will be spent creating practical projects and assessment tools to use in your own classroom. You will have time to work independently and receive feedback in small groups. You will also hear from professional graphic designers and see student outcomes from College of Design undergraduate classes.

Day 3 will be focused on giving and receiving feedback on your assignment ideas. For those ready to implement new projects this fall, it will be an opportunity to receive helpful suggestions. Online support and resources will also be available following the workshop.
