Count day, Wednesday Feburary 8th
Wednesday, February 8th, is our official fall student Count Day. This is an important day for our district but as we have been sharing all year, attendance matters every day! We encourage families to make every effort for students to be present in school. If your student is unable to attend Wednesday, please call in the absence to our attendance office at (586) 439-6490. This is especially important on Wednesday as we have to make sure every student is accounted for and will help avoid a call home. Thank you for making sure your student is in school.
Kindness
For the month of February, our PBIS goals are focused on being kind. We will be kicking off the first full week of February with our Student Council sponsored Kindness Spirit Week. Students are encouraged to dress up and complete the daily challenge to help spread kindness throughout our community!
Kindness is defined as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Let's practice being kind to everyone this month!

5th & 6th Grade Band Concert Update
Our winter band concert will be on Wednesday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the Richards Middle School gym. Due to scheduling, the location had to be changed. Students must be in the gym with their equipment set up by 6:30 P.M. for a group warm-up before the concert.
For attire, please have your students wear a white top, black bottoms, and black shoes. Prior to the concert, please make sure your student has everything they need: instrument, book, stand, new reeds, etc. so that rehearsals can go smoothly.
Reach out to our elementary band teacher, Ms. DeSchutter, with any questions.

In addition, please take time to label each and every item to help keep our lost and found to a minimum. All items that have a name on them will be returned the same day they are lost.
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.

Aloha Summer Fun Night
It is time to start planning and preparing for our annual Aloha Summer Fun Night.
This is our big year end event to celebrate the school year coming to an end, summer just around the corner and being together with our Disney Family.
If you are interested in helping with the planning and volunteering at the event please fill out google form - https://forms.gle/GNSHWVC5DjozwJyb6
We will be scheduling a date for a virtual meeting to discuss the details of the event and what needs to be done to prepare.

6th Grade Night at RMS
Richards Middle School would like to invite you and your 6th-grade child to Richards Middle School on the evening of Thursday, February 23rd, at 6:00 p.m.
The purpose of this evening is to introduce you and your child to their future school, the programs offered, and the selective classes available to them. We will also provide our students with a tour of our building’s selective classrooms.
The program will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. Parents are to report to the RMS gym, where they will meet the administrators, counselors, and academic department heads. Students will gather in the cafeteria, where their tour will begin.
Our goal is to provide you and your child with a good understanding of our vision and mission at Richards Middle School.
Our RMS counselors will visit each elementary classroom beginning Monday, February 27th for the 2023-24 school year and Wednesday, March 1st to assist students in filling out their schedule forms. Students are to return their schedule requests to their 6th-grade teacher no later than March 5th.
Counselors will again help with inputting the course requests at the elementary schools beginning March 6th and March 8th.
