Shepard Hill Family Newsletter
December 3, 2018
Liz Jacobs, of Pet Partners, has been visiting students at SHE to allow them to read to her dog Rocky!
Dear S.H.E. Families,
The colder months are setting in. Please make sure that your child is sent to school with clothing to spend recess outside. We monitor the weather closely and will send students outside as long as the temperature and wind chill is 20 degrees or higher.
The lower bathroom sinks have undergone a renovation. We have replaced the original sink with two free-standing units. In the next few weeks, the paper towel dispensers will be replaced with energy efficient hand dryers. The goal is the replace all of the original sinks within the larger bathrooms throughout the school by the end of the summer.
On December 3rd, the kindergarten and first grade classes will be attending a special performance of Pete the Cat. We have our next PTO meeting on December 5th at 6:30. Additionally, the next Board of Education meeting will be on December 12th at 7:00 at PHS. The PTO will be holding it's annual Holiday Shop here at SHE from December 17-21. Finally, our holiday break will be observed from December 24th through January 1st. We will see everyone back on January 2nd.
In partnership,
Mrs. Trahan

News from the Reading Room (Mrs. Round and Mrs. Gilmore)
The English Learners (EL) reading group has begun presentations on the country of the birth of their parents, sharing to the class some important facts. We then discuss and each student completes a page in their passport for that student/country. We will have a culminating activity where we use the world map on the bulleting board end of 500 hall. We will use yarn to show distance from CT. and label student and country presented. Each student will take home their passport before break (hopefully we finish). Our next unit will be on holidays celebrated in many different cultures across the world. We will do calendar work and vocabulary within this unit. We will begin with Chinese New Year.
Feel free to come visit at 9:15-9:30 daily. From Our Nurse, Mrs. Moreau
A friendly reminder to the prek parents, that all prek students need to have had a flu vaccine between 8-31-18 and 12-31-18. If they have not had the flu vaccine during the period of time, they will not be allowed to return to school in January. Please note, Plainfield Public Schools recognizes the immunization exemption laws of the CT Department of Public Health.
