Term 1 Week 3

Nau mai, Haere mai ki Uenuku

Kia ora

Thank you for your understanding regarding the postponement of this week's Getting to Know You meetings. With the move to phase 2 of the red light setting we have been spending time planning how learning will take place under different scenarios.

We will update you over the next few days as to what this will look like for your child.

We have enjoyed the sunshine of the past couple of weeks, visiting the Adventure Zone and playing outside in the sandpit and water trays.

We are pleased to welcome our newest members of Uenuku - Tazmann, Lincoln, Etta and Joshua.

Eating at School

We have three food breaks a day in Uenuku: Fruit break - 10am (when the children are encouraged to eat a piece of fruit or vegetables), Morning Tea - 11am and Lunch - 1:10pm. We support the children by suggesting they keep a main item of food for lunch (e.g. sandwich, savoury item) but it can be helpful if you chat to your child about what they might eat at specific times. If you would like to pack smaller separate boxes to help your child regulate what they eat at specific times we are happy to help them manage this.

We have noticed several children bringing small toys to school. We request that they leave any toys and precious items at home as it can cause great distress if they get lost or damaged. We understand that some children may need to keep a small comfort toy in their bag as they start school. Please let the teacher know if this is the case so that we can be sensitive to this and support your child if required.

Term 1 reminders

  • Students need to wear a wide brimmed sun hat outside everyday in terms 1 and 4. Thank you for sending these to school so promptly. We keep the hats in class overnight unless you request otherwise.
  • Please apply sunblock to your child every morning, even on those grey days! We will help your child to reapply sunblock at lunchtime. If you would prefer your child to use their own sunblock rather than the school's please send some to school in a named bottle.
  • We encourage the tamariki to drink lots of water throughout the day, especially during the warm weather. Please male sure that your child has their water bottle everyday.
  • Library Days are Mondays and Thursdays. Please make sure that your child brings their books back at least once a week so that they can change them.
  • Poetry books come home on Fridays and should be returned on the following Monday.
