Principal's Message
Happy New Year! Feliz Ano Novo! Que seja um feliz e saudável ano novo! May it be a happy and healthy New Year!
I hope you found some time this holiday season to enjoy yourself with family and friends. Personally, I had the opportunity to share some memorable moments with friends and family this past week. Whether playing games, skiing with my children, playing the piano or simply having a chance to "breathe" and connect with those I care about most, it was truly a wonderful week.
As we head into the New Year, there are few very important reminders:
Appointments/Meetings with school administration
- Mrs. Dugger and Mr. Wolpe have noticed an increase in the number of parents who are simply stopping by the school and dropping in to meet with us. Please know that while we both welcome parent meetings, we respectfully request to make an appointment with us, either through the main office or by calling/emailing us. We simply cannot accommodate parents who just drop in. We need you to schedule a meeting. We fully understand there are emergencies and you can be concerned about situations, but please make sure you make meetings to discuss such things.
Morning drop off/being on time
- We're seeing an increase in the number of students who are dropped off to school LATE EVERY day. Please know school starts at 9:05 and students are expected to be in the building by this time. Think about this, if you're late even 5 minutes each day, your child is missing 25 minutes of instruction each week and 100 minutes of instructions each month. Also, unless it's an emergency, you should NOT be dropping off students in the front of the building. Please drop off in the back of the buidling.
- Speaking of dropping off in the back, we've seen some cars starting to pass other cars once they drop their children off. Please do not do this. It creates a very unsafe environment for our students who are put in harm's way. Be careful.
- Make sure whenever possible your child is able to easily exit the care through the passenger side. This helps the traffic flow move smoothly.
- Also, this reminder: please do not line up outside before 8:45 and be kind and courteous to Potter Road's neighbors as they're the reason we're able to have this morning drop off.
Attendance
- Regular attendance is required at school. Unless your child is truly sick, he or she should be in school each and every day. Mrs. Dugger and I are going to be focusing on attendance and if necessary, getting the attendance officer involved for families whose students are consistently absent. Please know we understand that there are numerous reasons for absences and we're happy to support you to help you get your child to school each day. Please reach out to one of us if there's something specific causing your child to miss school. We will work to support you and your child.
Returning to School
- As a reminder, students return to school on TUESDAY, JANUARY 3rd
