Kia ora koutou
We are already into Week 5 of Term 2, the year is zooming by.
Tomorrow we hope the weather gods are favourable and we head to Highlands School for our Interschool Intermediate Sports Exchange. All travelling students are reminded to have a packed lunch with them and drink bottle. Should the exchange be cancelled due to bad weather these same students will still need to bring lunch.
For those students remaining at school, lunch will be provided for you.
Within our newsletter we call for whanau support for our forthcoming Marae Noho in late July and School Camps later in Term 3. If you can help out please forward your name to the office and police vetting forms will be forwarded.
Next week will be a particularly short one.
On Monday we celebrate Queens Birthday, school will be closed.
On Friday, school will also be closed as teachers have a Teacher Only Day.
For those of you heading away for the long weekend, safe travel. Rest up everyone- have a great weekend.

Welcome to Hawera Intermediate and to our school community, we look forward to having you work alongside us all.
As everyone knows the face of the office is an important one and Melissa has already impressed with the warmth and ready smile she presents.
Melissa has come to us from Auckland and has had previous experience in school office administration roles so has readily slipped in to her duties.
We hope you enjoy your time with us Mel.
HĀWERA INTERMEDIATE AND HĀWERA HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY UPDATE - (As seen in last week's Newsletter)
At the end of 2021, Minister of Education Chris Hipkins announced that Hāwera Intermediate and Hāwera High School would be closed by January 2023 and the New Hāwera Year 7 – 13 School would open, on the Hāwera High School site, from term 1, 2023.
For the new school to operate on the Hāwera High School site from term 1, the Ministry of Education will need to move eight classrooms from Hāwera Intermediate School during term 4 this year. These eight classrooms will form part of a temporary teaching area on Bayly Park.
It is important to note;
- there is room on Bayly Park to accommodate both sport and the additional classrooms
- this is a short-medium term solution
- the Hāwera Intermediate site will be cleared, and we will work collaboratively with all parties on what will happen with the bare land whilst we work through the legal disposal process
- the Ministry of Education will begin the rebuilding process for the New Hāwera Year 7 – 13 School from 2023
This is an exciting time for the school and community. Throughout this transition, the Ministry of Education will work with the school boards to minimise disruption allowing them to maintain the provision of quality education for all students. If you have any questions regarding the temporary property solution, please free to contact the local Ministry of Education office, enquiries.whanganui@education.govt.nz.
