Focus On Education
Friday, October 7, 2022
This week in our schools has an adventure! Our athletics were on fire, our students have been joining together, and the Brickie support has been unwavering. Check out this week's recap of our students and staff and what upcoming events are taking place!
Pride of Hobart Brought Home Another GOLD and with Visual Distinction!
If you ever drive by the high school after school hours, whether to come to an event or pick your child up from practice, you have most likely seen these Brickies and their educators in the parking lot work, work, working!! It is incredible to watch as they adjust their formations, march in every directions with their instruments, and all while playing the memorizing music like pros. It is no surprise that they have earned several awards this year, including a Silver, a Gold, and most recently at the ISSMA Marching Band Festival - GOLD with VISUAL DISTINCTION!
Kart Club Competes At Purdue In evGrand Prix!
Our Brickies have been competing in the evGrand Prix for a few years now (except during COVID) and have not only excelled but have grown!! The evGrand Prix is a competitive electric go-kart race where students from all over the Country come to Purdue to compete in a prestigious and innovative electric karting championship. Participants build their own karts, tune the powertrain and chassis dynamics, and then put them to a test in an exciting race that displays their ingenuity and the technology of electric vehicles.
In addition to the race, teams compete an academic challenge to win the overall series championship. High School teams create STEM report, an Outreach video, and participate in Test & Tune events! (Like the one we talked about in the newsletter a few weeks ago!) All together it provides a complete learning experience that develops essential professional skills that will launch the students to the next phase of their careers.
Our Brickies were ready and did such an amazing job during both the test & tune events earlier this fall and at the race. Though they did not place this year, the experience they had was priceless and a great learning experience. They are looking forward to work, work, working throughout the year to improve their kart and we look forward to seeing them compete again in the Spring!
Time Out For Reading!
On October 7th our littlest Brickies took a "time-out" for some reading! It was a great opportunity to educate our young Brickies on the importance of reading. No matter your reading level, age, interests, or hobbies - reading is important! It helps develop imaginations, verbal abilities, focus, and concentration. Most importantly, it is fun! We had some excellent visitors that took "time-out" of their day and went to the Early Learning Center to read to our young Brickie minds! The students loved seeing those that stopped in and had such a fun time reading with them! Thanks to all that participated! Let's keep reading, Brickies!
Hobart Middle School Teacher, Mrs. Kistler, Featured In SmartBrief Journal!

Let's Celebrate National Principal's Month!

They are the heart of the schools and we are so thankful to have them here as Brickie Principals. Join us this whole month as we honor our Principals for National Principals Month!
Brandon Marciniak - Bachelor Degree with a Minor, and a Masters In Just FOUR years!
Let's talk about Brandon - Hobart High School 2020 Graduate and a Brickie who took part in Hobart University and the college credits that were offered. He continued on from high school by attending Ball State University where he is pursuing a Bachelor's in Sports Administration, Minor in Marketing, and a Master's in Sports Administration! Incredible! We reached out to him and he stated,
"This opportunity for me was only possible due to dual Ivy Tech Credits Hobart High School provided." (GO HU!) "It gave me a start as a sophomore at Ball State and was a huge advantage for me. I will be graduating with my Bachelor's, Minor, and Master's in just FOUR YEARS!"
We know we talk about Hobart University a lot but there are many reasons, or as well call them -students, behind the hard work we do and partnership with Ivy Tech. They leave here excelling! No matter if you are attending a college or university, heading to the trades, or going straight to the working world - college is needed for it all! We can help you get to where you want to go and if you don't know, that is okay, these credits never go away and always look great on a resume.
Proud of your hard work, Brandon, and honored to always call you a Brickie!

iReady Assessments for Grades K-8!
i-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction. i-Ready replaces the Star Renaissance Assessments that they students took last school year.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! I look forward to sharing i-Ready information with you throughout the year. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
