Virtues
At Eagle River Elementary School, our goal is to foster educational excellence while promoting a culture of caring. At ERES we have implemented the Virtues Project. Our staff and students focus on the innate character traits, or virtues, that we all possess. We introduce a new virtue every other week. Here are our upcoming virtues and some guiding questions for you to discuss with your child(ren) at home. As always, we appreciate and value your support! Each time we learn about and discuss a new Virtue at school, we will send home a description of that Virtue and some questions for you to ask your child about that Virtue.
Friendliness
Friendliness is being a friend. It is taking an interest in other people. It is going out of your way to make others feel welcome. When you are friendly, you share your belongings, time, ideas, and feelings. You share the good times and the bad times together. Friendliness is the best cure for loneliness.
Here are some questions to ask your child at home to discuss friendliness:
What are some of the challenges or obstacles to being friendly?
What are the characteristics of a best friend?
What would a good friend do if someone was sad?
Name three things you can do to have more friends.
Thank you, we appreciate your support!
ELA
Math
Science
In class your child will be presented with a list of action verbs like “drag,” “lift,” “press,” and asked to decide whether they are pushes or pulls. You can help support your child’s learning by continuing this at home. Try applying it to actions that might be of personal interest, like the actions involved in a favorite sport (a throw, a hit, a slam dunk, a tackle, etc.).
