Highly Effective Teacher-start NOW!
During pre-service we had some great conversations around high reliability organizations! We know that to be highly effective, we must be highly reliable. Now more than ever our students need us to be at our best. Remember when we talk about a highly effective teacher we are referring to that "three legged stool" that helps to remind us of the characteristics of a highly effective teacher. Highly effective teachers:
1. create positive classroom environments
2. are intentional about their teaching
3. challenge their students
Remember if one leg of the stool is missing, a teacher is not being at their most effective. I know you have all had a great start this year with the first day of school. Let's keep focused on our "three legged stool" and make this year the best ever!
General Updates
Below are a few general campus updates:
- First day enrollment at 692
- VERY IMPORTANT: our bells system is not working and it maybe out of commission this week. Please set your phone or computer alarms for start of the day and critical dismissal times for bus riders.
- As you find out more about students impacted by Harvey, please be sure to communicate this in a timely manner so we can reach out to them
- The gaga pit is being removed from the playground. After our playground inspection it has basically become a giant ant farm and some of the wood at the base is a bit unstable. We are unsure of what will replace it or if anything will replace it. If you have any ideas, please share.
- The small covered area on the big playground is currently closed. I will keep you updated on when mulch is to arrive
- Grade level discipline: hopefully you will never have to send anyone to the office for discipline, but if so please remember K and1st -Gaines, 2nd and 3rd-Boynton and 4th and 5th-Thompson

September 22 Teacher Workday
Teachers have the option to fulfill the September 22, 2017 service day by completing at least six (6) hours of previously earned, uncompensated PD hours. A form will be emailed to you to submit your hours. This form, along with proof of PD completion, will be kept on‐file. Time should be reported in OneSource as "off campus duty".
EDIT 8/6/17: The only restrictions are that the PD time cannot have been compensated by HISD (including stipends) and that the PD should have taken place after the last day of school for teachers for last school year (5/26/17) and before the Fall Holiday (9/22/17). Forms should be submitted to Mrs. Thompson by September 20th. If you have PD hours on the 21st that you are completing, please add to the form. Once documentation of hours are received, leaves will be approved in One Source.
