Career Pathways
Highlands High School Family and Consumer Sciences Department is constantly revising content to meet the needs of the students and current industry standards. The department currently offers four career pathways for students. They include, Early Childhood Education, Fashion and Interior Design, Culinary Arts and Nutrition and Family and Consumer Management.

Early Childhood Education Pathway
Early Childhood Education is available for students who plan to pursue a career working with children in many different capacities. Students learn about parenting styles, areas of development, stages of children, guidance techniques, lesson planning and engage in co-op experiences in the community day cares and preschool programs. Courses included in this career pathway include Lifeskills, Parenting and Child Development and Child Care Services I & II. Students will earn their Orientation to Training Credential and their Commonwealth Child Care Credential once completing the pathway. These are two crucial credentials that are required when working with young children in Kentucky.
