PAWS and CHAMPS
By now, many of you may have already heard your kids talking about PAWS and/or CHAMPS. PAWS stands for:
Practice Safety
Act Responsibly
Work To Do My Best
Show Respect
We use PAWS in the hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, playground, during arrival/dismissal and assemblies. Depending on the location, there are different descriptions for each of the letters in PAWS. For example, to Practice Safety in the hallway, we would use walking feet. These are campus-wide expectations that help all students be successful!
Make sure to ask your child what it means when we say, "PAWS UP!"
CHAMPS is used to promote classroom expectations. It is a positive behavior support that helps students take ownership of their learning, and assists the teacher with managing the classroom. CHAMPS stands for:
Conversation - Can students talk to each other?
Help - How can students get the teacher's attention?
Activity - What is the objective?
Movement - Can students move about?
Participation - What does the desired student behavior look/sound like?
Success - Soar to Success!
Teachers collaborate with students to determine expectations throughout the day. See below for examples of how CHAMPS can be used in the classroom. Make sure to ask your child about CHAMPS. We strive to ensure all students are successful!
Cafeteria Purchases
In the event you feel your child is purchasing too many snacks during lunch, we offer parents and guardians the option to restrict purchases on student meal accounts. Purchases will not be restricted without a signed and completed Meal & Snack Permission form on file. In all circumstances, students will not be allowed to purchase snacks or a la carte items without a positive balance in their lunch account.
Campus Safety
Dear Lake Travis ISD Parents and Guardians,
In the aftermath of the Santa Fe High School shooting in May, Governor Greg Abbott directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to enhance campus safety and security by working closely with local law enforcement partners and school officials. As a result of this directive, I am pleased to report that beginning this fall DPS troopers will have an increased presence throughout our district.
Specifically, parents and other visitors may witness DPS troopers parked in front of our schools or occupying space inside our campuses to produce reports and complete other assignments. Troopers may also be seen performing routine patrols, campus walkthroughs and even attending school events. The visibility of DPS troopers in and around our schools will serve to further support ongoing efforts by the City of Bee Cave Police Department, the City of Lakeway Police Department, and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. Ultimately, this concerted and multi-jurisdictional partnership will serve to familiarize local first responders with our campus administrators, school site plans and emergency procedures.
Community support is critical to school safety. Furthermore, our local law enforcement partners are an integral part of our school community, and the presence of DPS troopers on our campuses will allow us to strengthen rapport and build positive relationships as we continue to work together to improve school safety. As you visit our schools, I ask that you please take a moment to thank our local law enforcement partners and first responders for their commitment to student safety across our district.
Sincerely,
Brad Lancaster, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Destination Imagination
Do you have or know of a student who enjoys the performing arts, engineering, construction, research, science and design? Then try D.I.!
An informational meeting for parents interested in managing a team to learn more about the Destination Imagination program will be held Monday, September 10 at 5:30 in Room 205.
Destination Imagination (DI) is a non-profit, volunteer-led, cause-driven organization. The purpose is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders. Annually, they offer seven new standards-based Challenges in STEM, Improv, Visual Arts, Service Learning, and Early Learning. Each Challenge is open-ended and enables student teams to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation.
Bee Cave Elementary Destination Imagination is open to students K-5 who attend our school. Once managers are signed up, Mrs. Cravey will take student applications and assign students to teams.

Raise Craze is Coming!!
Our Fall Fundraiser is less than 3 weeks away! This year, rather than running laps, our students will be performing ACTS OF KINDNESS for others! The whole premise of Raise Craze is “Fundraising through Kindness” and we are so excited about getting all BCE students on board to spread kindness in the community.
We will be raising funds this year to purchase:
Google Expeditions kit for the whole school to use
Purchases for your child’s individual classroom (chosen by your teacher)
Educational tools to help support the district-wide Learner Centric Model
To understand a little more, check out this short video. We will be sending out much more information when it is time to register on Sept 28.
