ROBERTS MIDDLE SCHOOL
GRIT: Volume 15
Dear Roberts,
As I write the last Smore for 2017, I reflect back on the year’s events. There were so many blessings and so many obstacles that have come and gone, but will not be forgotten. Harvey has definitely made his presence known in our great city and community, but only time will tell whether we succumbed or endured. What if time had a voice? What would time say about Roberts Middle School? I have learned to never underestimate the heart of a teacher. What resonated over and over is that our work family chose to create and write our own story. We chose to serve and be protectors of our children, community, and work family.
As 2018 approaches, where do you want to see growth? Until we are willing to stare at all our inadequacies and be completely honest with ourselves, we will never experience growth. So many people say to look in the mirror and you will see why you are not succeeding, but I don’t believe that to be true. I believe what you don’t see in the mirror is what is holding you back. What you are not willing to see in the mirror is why growth is not manifesting. I believe you all have latent potential, and the wonderful news is that you can develop yourself in any direction you want. I don’t want you to be just good teachers, I want you to be great teachers. I want this school to be a school of greatness for our students and for professional development.
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas. I want you to rest and know that you are valued here at Roberts. Let us continue to define time and be the authors of our own stories.
Jorly
I want to recognize Iroquois West, Clifton-Central, Paxton, Buckley, and Loda High School for helping our school by raising $1,416.75. Under the great leadership of Carrie Miller (Carley Frank's Aunt). There are no words that can truly describe the impact you will make on our students who lost everything in the flood. Your schools will be remembered for your infectious spirit of giving. What your community has done for us will be forged in our story forever. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being willing to help. Because of your kind donation, our school is planning to give 90 students who are still effected by the flood Christmas gifts.
