November 2017

A Message from Our Principal

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Thank you to everyone that attended our Annual Fall Fest last week. We had a great crowd, and everyone seemed to enjoy the night. It’s always fun to see the students and their families at these events.

Our 2nd 6 Weeks will be ending on Friday, November 10. Report cards will be sent out the following week. Please remember that you can schedule a parent conference with your child’s teacher by either emailing them directly or calling the front office.

On Friday, November 10, we will be having our Veteran’s Day Ceremony across the street at AMCMS in their gymnasium. We are very excited for our orchestra and choir students to perform and would like to invite you to come and watch their performance. Please note that our space will be limited, and we will ensure that all our students have a place to sit prior to reserving a section for our guests. In addition, parents will need to check in the front office at Oakwood prior to attending the ceremony. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this matter.

Our Thanksgiving Break will be from Wednesday, November 22 – November 24. If you will be traveling, please let us know in advance with an email or letter. Your student will be responsible for all work that is missed while they are away. They will need to communicate with their teachers to ensure they have everything covered for their assignments.

Picture retakes will be offered on Wednesday, November 29. We will send out a reminder with more information as we get closer to that date.

As always, thank you so much for the opportunity to work with your amazing children. We’ve had a great year thus far, and are looking forward to the remainder of the fall semester.

* Daylight Savings Time is this Sunday, November 5. Be sure to roll back your clocks.

Help spread the word!

Please help spread the word! Parking for $20 is available at Oakwood with just a 3/4 mile walk to Kyle. 100% of the proceeds benefit our students!

Share our new Facebook page with event details about each game. Let your friends know that they can check the event page for each game to see when our lot is full before they head our direction. The page is called "TAMU Game Day Parking at Oakwood" or follow the link:

Mark your calendars...

Each game's parking revenue benefits a specific department or group at Oakwood. Please support your group when it is their turn. This is a very effective fundraiser and we sincerely appreciate those who offer a couple hours on a Saturday to make this possible!

Be on the lookout for volunteer details from these school groups. Parents and students are needed.

Nov 4 - 6th Math

Nov 11 - AVID

Toiletry donations always welcome!

Oakwood maintains a small food pantry with help from the Brazos Valley Food Bank that also offers toiletries. If you are able, please drop off deodorant, soaps, lotions, chapsticks and shampoos. Both full size and travel sizes (such as free items from hotel stays) are very much appreciated! Donations can be given anytime to the front office.

With remind & Facebook, parents can receive helpful reminders and interesting news where it is most convenient.

We are hoping to go more paperless in our communications. If it's important, we'll text you if you've signed up for remind with the PTO. Please note that many teachers also use remind. Be sure to sign up for each group.

We share even more info for parents through Facebook for the school here and for the PTO here. It is encouraged that parents toggle on "Get Notifications" on the top of our pages. Otherwise, many posts will not be included in your news feed without being boosted with an ad buy. We'd rather spend our money on the kids:)
