Yearbook Club- 4th/5th Grade
This is an exciting opportunity that will teach your students how to use various cameras, to utilize layouts in design applications, work with a team, meet deadlines, converse with the yearbook representative and learn how the books are made, how to be hands-on in a design process for your student’s school yearbook and document events around the school.
Eligibility requirements for Yearbook Club:
- currently in 4th/5th grade at BYE
- able to attend events during or after school to document for the yearbook
- able to be responsible

Applications are due September 14th. Students who were previously in Yearbook should complete another application. These students will have priority. Students will be chosen by a committee consisting of classroom teachers, yearbook sponsor, and administrators. Yearbook applicants will be notified by Monday, September 20th regarding Yearbook Club. Parents will be emailed about Yearbook Club status. Contact Mrs. Ballard (aballard@sdale.org) or Mrs. Norwood (cnorwood@sdale.org) if you have any questions.

Notes from the counselor- Character Word of the Month- Kindness
For the month of September, we are focusing on the character word, kindness. Kindness means being friendly to others. At the end of the month each teacher, K-5, will choose one student who showed the most growth in kindness. That student will receive an award and a prize for being a good role model.
Practice it!
Spend time writing encouraging notes to people in your community. This could be neighbors, policemen, teachers, anyone! Have your child go with you to deliver the notes of kindness.

Talk About it!
Here are some discussion points to help you talk about kindness with your child:
Tell me about a time when someone was kind to you. How did it make you feel?
What do you think kindness means and why is it important?
Who is someone in your class you can be kind to?
What are ways you can be kind to people at home, at school and in the community.
