NEWS & NOTES
Our vision should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through posted I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Shout outs for the week:
- Farewell Mr. Hadrick! Mr. Hadrick's last day is Friday. He will be heading back to NC to be with family. THANKS for all you did at Wendell Phillips!
Tuesday is a school-based PD Day from 8:30-4:00. We will meet in the Media Center at 9:00 am for PD on working with students that have experienced trauma. This PD will be an hour. After this PD, you will be released to work in your classrooms. Expectations for how this time is used are as follows:
- Update data walls with current student data
- Update posted student work
- Review guided reading groups and stations to make sure they are aligned with student need based on your recent data.
- Plan instruction for the week, focusing on I CAN statements aligned with content being taught. Ensure there is a CFU to determine student mastery throughout the lesson and at the end.
Walkthroughs/evals will be focused on these elements the next two weeks, including a classroom environment check. Our learning environments need to be clean and inviting. Coaches will be reaching out for individual teacher check ins on the 17th.
Wednesday morning, we will receive PD on how to use the new wireless projector systems installed in classrooms over break. We will meet in the media center @ 7:30 am.
We will have an instructional walkthrough visit with the Deputy Superintendent of Academics, Dr. Legrand, our AIO, Dr. Pratt, and TZ Director, Brynn Kardash, on Thursday from 10:30-12:00. Expect to be visited, as they want to see a broad range of classrooms. The same elements as outlined above will be the focus of the visit. Be prepared to show off the hard work you and your students have done!
Thank you for your flexibility in our first week of implementing our RightFIT program. Our students appear to enjoy the extra time at school engaged in physical activities, nutrition education, and homework help. Attached is a spreadsheet of students that are actively enrolled. Please have them at the front of the line at dismissal. If they are not on the list, they cannot stay. We will be capping enrollment right now as we work out kinks.
Boys Basketball finished the season undefeated and are in the playoffs! We will be hosting the tournament, so we will have home court advantage!
