A graphic designer works to a brief agreed with the client. They develop creative ideas and concepts, choosing the appropriate media and style to meet the client's objectives.

Training and Qualifications

Most learning is on the job, except for formal training in industry-specific software.A bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field is usually required. However, those with a bachelor’s degree in another field may pursue technical training in graphic design to meet most hiring qualifications. Having degree in graphic design, illustration, 3D design, fine art, visual art, photography, film/television, or communication can improve your chances.

Job Outlook

Employment of graphic designers is projected to grow 7 percent from 2012 to 2022, slower than the average for all occupations. Graphic designers will continue to play important roles in the marketing of products.

Earning Potential

The median annual wage for graphic designers was $44,150 in May 2012.The lowest 10 percent earned less than $26,250, and the top 10 percent earned more than $77,490.
