November 10, 2017 - Volume 12

As educators and parents, we know that our kids take risks in areas we don't particularly like, especially on social media. I saw this article which detailed some monitoring apps for iPhone and Android that allow you to see what is going on in your child's social media life.

While "spying" does not feel good, it is important to keep on eye on what your child is doing online. Did you know that over 80% of students have between 3-5 different logins for SnapChat or Instagram and that their parents typically know about only one of those logins?

I always tell parents that giving their child a cell phone or other smart device is like putting them in the middle of New York City with no direction and no support. It is not something we would do.

Before you choose a monitoring app, please read a few other reviews. Click here to read the article.

Please Be Careful!

As the sun is setting earlier please be extra careful when picking up your child from after school activities. Use caution and watch out for both students and staff crossing the circular drive in front of the school.

Please wait for ALL pedestrians to cross before driving around them - especially with the more slippery weather upon us.

Thank you!

Veterans Day - Honor and Remember

As stated on the History Channel - Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day the following year, November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became legally known as Veterans Day.

Wredling Middle School is named after John H. Wredling who served in the Army and Air Force during WW II. His legacy of service continued with the Boy Scouts of America, as an Educator, and as the Superintendent of D303 schools. At the time of his death in November 2015, John H. Wredling was 101 years old.

We want to take time to honor those military personnel currently serving and those who have served in the past to protect our world. We also want to remember those Veterans who are no longer with us and those who made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. The men and women deserve our thanks and gratitude. Take a moment this weekend and thank those that you know.

Gordon Korman Author Visit!

Wredling is excited to host Gordon Korman the afternoon of November 15. Gordon Korman is a New York Times best-selling author of over 75 books. All students will be able to attend his presentation and learn more about his life and career. Along with presenting, he will be autographing copies of his books that have been purchased at our Book Fair or pre-ordered through this form. Please return form and money by Nov. 14 to the LRC. We know this will be a memorable event for our students and staff.

If they took home a copy that they purchased at the Book Fair, please be sure to send that book with your student to school if they want Gordon Korman to autograph it!

Calling all musicians!

A representative from Blue Lake Summer Music Camp will be visiting Wredling on Friday, December 1st to do scholarship auditions during all performance music periods. NO auditions will take place after school. In order to be eligible for an audition time you MUST have a signed permission slip from a parent. Music directors will be handing out the permission slips. Instrumental students that are interested in auditioning should prepare two scales and an excerpt of a prepared piece, while vocalists should prepare several vocal warm-ups and an excerpt of a prepared song. Good luck on your audition!

A Big Shout Out to our Book Fair Volunteers!

We would like to take a moment to thank the many volunteers that come into Wredling and help out, but most especially our Book Fair Volunteers this week! We couldn't have had a successful fair without your support. It has been most appreciated!

Team 6-4 Outdoor Ed

The brisk fall weather didn't scare off this team from enjoying their time at Covenant Harbor! They worked together to complete the challenges that were presented to them. This time away from their normal school day was a great success!

Team 6-1 Outdoor Ed Adventure

We had a wonderful, yet chilly day in the woods of Covenant Harbor on Lake Geneva, WI on Monday! Students faced the challenges of climbing to heights on the rock wall and the High Ropes courses. They also work on solving challenges in their small groups during the 'Low Ropes' activities. The mid-day lunch of camp food was a warm welcome from the outdoors!!
