Verbal De-Escalation Training

Shannon Sobeck, the Behavioral Specialist from PCES, will be offering two sessions of verbal de-escalation training for our staff. She has already given this training at Flint Lake and the feedback has been fantastic. She is also conducting this training with the TJMS staff. I am thankful she offered to share her information with us at Central. All staff members are welcome and encouraged to attend! The sessions will be held in two parts, so please choose the session that best fits your schedule. Teachers, this training will count toward PGP time since it is longer than our usual collaboration Wednesday time and contains an after school time.


Session 1: Wednesday, November 18 from 7:00a.m.-9:00a.m. and Tuesday, December 1 from 3:30p.m.-5:30p.m.


OR


Session 2: Wednesday, December 9 from 7:00a.m.-9:00a.m. (same training as 11/18) and Tuesday, December 15 from 3:30p.m.-5:30p.m.(same training as 12/1)

EL Parent Night on Wednesday from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Thanks to Jasmin for offering to be our translator on this evening designed to explain report cards to EL parents. There are 13 Central families who signed up!

Thanksgiving Lunch on Tuesday!

Meetings for Jeanie

On Monday I will be at the administration building from 9:00-10:30 a.m. for a safety training and then again from 12:30-3:30 p.m. for the district technology committee meeting. On Thursday there is a principal's meeting at the administration building starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending around 1:30 p.m.

Thought for the Week: Building Academic Vocabulary

Marzano’s 6-Step vocabulary process is a research-based premise that states students need multiple exposures to words in order to increase their vocabulary. Research shows that students may need as many as 4 – 14 – or 40 exposures to words. 4 exposures are needed for those students who have a broad vocabulary, 14 exposures may be necessary for many students as they acquire new words, and 40 exposures may be necessary for those students who are English language learners. Words are selected mindfully and are reinforced through instructional activities that incorporate the 6 steps found below.
