Scott County District 2 is excited to again partner with Secured Tech Solutions to offer an opt-in accidental damage protection plan for our student iPads. This coverage will protect your student- issued device (does not cover loaners) from incurring repair costs due to accidental damage or theft (with police report). Coverage will begin when purchased and covers devices through July 1, 2023. The cost to enroll is $25.

Scottsburg MS welcomed five teachers to our faculty for the 2022-2023 school year.

Mrs. Bailey Evans, Tribe math teacher, shared this bio:

My name is Bailey Evans and this is my first year at SMS! I grew up in Salem, Indiana and was a Salem graduate of 2013. I went to Purdue University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. I have experience in educational communications and policy from my time at the Indiana Department of Education. My love for education encouraged me to make the leap into the classroom. I taught 8th grade history at Salem Middle School last year.

In 2020, I moved to Scottsburg and married my husband, Christian, a graduate of Scottsburg. We live here with our two dogs, Tebow and Nala. This past summer, we welcomed our first child, Blakely.

I am beyond excited to be a part of Tribe and teaching our kiddos math. Go Warriors!

The Scottsburg MS student handbook contains some significant updates for the 2022-2023 school year. The most significant changes took place in the discipline section.

Here are the highlights of three changes that will impact the largest number of students:

• Cell phones are still not allowed to be used during the school day here at SMS. Phones are expected to be turned off and stored in lockers. Students who are carrying a cell phone or using a cell phone during the school day are in violation. The consequences for each situation are outlined in the handbook.

• Second is illegal substances. This year students who have illegal substances and/or paraphernalia (most common examples are vapes, cigarettes, or alcohol) will be recommended for expulsion on the first offense.

• In an attempt to be more aligned with the high school discipline policy, we will be following a progressive discipline approach. This means that when a student commits the same offense multiple times, the discipline will get progressively more serious.
