Exciting News: Unveiling Our New Brand Identity!
Dear Eagle Ridge Academy Community,
In case you missed it, we are thrilled to share some exciting news that promises to enhance our sense of community and pride in Eagle Ridge Academy.
In February 2022, a dedicated committee was formed with a simple yet powerful purpose: to advance our school's brand identity initiatives. The journey has been one of dedication and creativity, and we're proud to announce the culmination of our efforts. Our assessment revealed that although our logos were not lacking in quality, they did not harmonize seamlessly to represent the strength of our brand. We were missing a branding guide to create the much-needed cohesiveness, and it was clear that our logos required an update to better reflect who we are as an established Classical charter school celebrating 20 years of academic excellence.
We set our sights on a design that was contemporary yet classical, characterized by clean lines and symmetry. The visuals needed to reflect the educational passion that defines Eagle Ridge Academy—a touch of the collegiate nature that our program embodies. Above all, we wanted our new brand to exude motion, confidence, and strength, mirroring the qualities of our remarkable students.
As part of the refreshed branding, we are delighted to introduce you to our new Gryphon. This dynamic creature embodies a sense of confidence, strength, and forward movement that encapsulates the persevering spirit of our students.
Additionally, we have incorporated the Gryphon's wings into a shield design, unifying our three schools: the School of Grammar, the School of Logic, and the School of Rhetoric. The shield honors prior academic logos while tying to the Gryphon.
In this design, you'll see the Gryphon wings, each representing one of our schools. They start at the bottom with the School of Grammar, symbolizing the foundation of our students' education. As they ascend, the wings grow and evolve, just as our students do, culminating at the top with the School of Rhetoric, where we see our students reaching the pinnacle of their time at Eagle Ridge Academy.
This transformation is not just a visual upgrade; it's a representation of our commitment to excellence, to the growth of our students, and to the unyielding strength of our Eagle Ridge Academy community.
We invite you to embrace and celebrate this exciting change with us. As students, parents, and staff members, you are an integral part of what makes our school special, and your enthusiasm and acceptance of our new brand will undoubtedly add to the sense of unity and pride we share.
We are elated to be a part of the Eagle Ridge community and hope this small step forward helps to strengthen a legacy of excellence within the school. We respect what has been accomplished and look forward to what is to come.
GO GRYPHONS!!!

Executive Director Jason Ulbrich on Classical Education
Dear Eagle Ridge Academy Community,
Since Eagle Ridge Academy’s (ERA) inception in 2004, we have been committed to a high-quality Classical liberal arts education for all students. This past week I attended the 7th annual Minnesota Classical Education Conference that is hosted by ERA. During the conference, I was reminded of the significance that Classical education has had on our society and, specifically, some of the great leaders that were classically educated. Leaders like Cicero, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Phillis Wheatley, Frederick Douglass, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi, W.E.B Du Bois, and Martin Luther King Jr. were all classically educated.
As we reflect on what Classical education has done for others, we are reminded what Classical education can do for our students at ERA. Leaders that received a Classical education can foster a unique approach to personal and societal development in the following ways:
- Cultivation of Critical Thinking: Classical education places a strong emphasis on critical thinking, logic, and reasoning. This equips leaders with the ability to analyze complex situations, make informed decisions, and solve problems effectively.
- Ethical Foundation: Classical education includes the study of philosophy and ethics. This provides a strong moral and ethical foundation for leaders, enabling them to make principled decisions that benefit not only themselves but also their communities and organizations.
- Rhetorical Skills: Classical education places a strong emphasis on rhetoric—the art of persuasive communication. This is essential in motivating and influencing others.
- Broad Knowledge Base: Classical education covers a wide range of subjects including literature, history, mathematics, sciences, and the arts. This interdisciplinary approach provides leaders with a well-rounded education, enabling them to understand complex issues from multiple perspectives.
- Long-Term Vision and Strategic Thinking: Classical education involves the study of history and the examination of long-term trends. This develops a strategic mindset, allowing them to plan and navigate uncertainty.
- Resilience and Grit: Classical education involves rigorous study and a commitment to excellence. This instills qualities like perseverance, resilience, and strong work habit.
- Civic Responsibility: Classical education emphasizes the idea of citizenship and contributing to the common good.
- Cultural Awareness and Appreciation: Classical education and Core Knowledge includes the study of different cultures, religions, and civilizations. This promotes understanding of diversity and fosters a global perspective.
The impact of a Classical education on leadership is profound. Classical education provides a solid intellectual and ethical foundation, instills valuable skills, and encourages a broad perspective. This is the Classical education ERA is proud to provide—preparing today’s students to be tomorrow’s leaders.
Sincerely,
Jason Ulbrich

Share Your Contact Information in the Family Directory
Since our school is unable to publish or otherwise share family contact information, we want to encourage families to share their contact information in the school directory via Membership Tool Kit. Doing so makes it much easier to communicate between families, share classroom opportunities, publicize grade level get-togethers, and assist one another with homework and uniform questions. Membership Tool Kit gives you control over what information you share and is available both online and as an app. Create an account here. If you already have an account, use the same link to access it through your mobile app or computer and update your family information including teacher or advisor name.
New Family Classical Conversation: Tuesday, November 7, 8:15-9:15 a.m.
Dear Families,
We hope that all had a relaxing fall break and were able to take in the magic of this wonderful time of year! Our staff always enjoys this time connecting with parents through conferences, connecting with each other at the Minnesota Classical Education Conference, and connecting with our own families at the height of one of our most beautiful Minnesota seasons.
To continue connecting in meaningful ways, we are looking forward to our upcoming New Family Classical Conversation–an informal gathering where parents can connect with one another, while also learning a bit about what we do throughout the day. The event will be hosted by faces that are likely familiar to our new families–Janice Gerheart, Admissions Specialist; Kelly Schiffman, Director of Development; and Suzannah Toso, Classical Coordinator; as well as a number of established parents who are always eager to meet new families and answer questions.
Come join us for a leisurely hour over coffee and tea to connect with other ERA parents! We will meet the morning of Tuesday, November 7, in the ERA Solarium, 8:15-9:15 a.m. Express your interest through this link. Looking forward to gathering in scholé together as a community!
Sincerely,
Suzannah Toso

Community Updates: Schools of Logic and Rhetoric
Congratulations to our Spring 2023 Olympus Club Members! - Missy Madigan and Mohamed Ali, School of Logic and School of Rhetoric Assistant Principals
Congratulations to the students listed below for admittance into the Spring 2023 Olympus Club. Admittance into the Olympus Club appropriately reflects the endless hours these students have spent securing a 2022-23 second semester grade point average of a 3.33 or above, along with embodying the CIPHER pillars on a daily basis. Olympus Club recognition is more than an honor roll, it also acknowledges students who display The Gryphon Way through a commitment toward attendance (fewer than 3 tardies all semester) and behavior (fewer than 3 pillar referrals, no detentions or infractions).
Our scholars have been recognized in grade-level assemblies and presented with a certificate suitable for framing. They are permitted to wear spirit wear during the three days of finals.

Congratulations, October Pillar Award Recipients!
CIPHER (Citizenship, Integrity, Perseverance, Honor, Excellence, Respect) is more than a motto, it’s what we strive to follow in our actions with fellow Gryphons.
The Schools of Logic & Rhetoric hold monthly Pillar Assemblies in which six students from each grade level in the Schools of Logic and Rhetoric are recognized for displaying CIPHER throughout the month. Each student is nominated for a Pillar Award by one of their teachers, who writes a short paragraph describing how the student exemplified their pillar, which is shared with the student body.
Congratulations to our October Pillar Award recipients! Thank you for demonstrating CIPHER every day and for being role models at Eagle Ridge Academy.
