A Note From Mrs. Doyle, Principal
June 18, 2021
Dear Peter Noyes Families,
Happy Last Day of School!! This is an exciting day around the building, but it is also bittersweet. As a first grader told me this morning at drop off, “I’m excited for summer, but I’m going to miss school.” And you know what? We’re going to miss our students.
Here are the last notices of the 2020-2021 school year, but the most important thing I want to say to you is “Thank You!!” There are so many things none of us wanted in a school experience, but despite considerable obstacles, everyone gave their best and rose to the occasion. Thank you for your patience with the ever-changing rules and the remote learning hiccups. You provided needed grace for all of us when our buckets were nearing empty and I just want you to know that we noticed and we deeply appreciated it. Thank you for all your kind words to our incredibly hard-working staff. These meant so much.
Report Cards
Report cards will be released electronically this afternoon. Given the shortened school year, you may notice that some standards have been marked with an “x,” meaning that the standard was not addressed in sufficient depth to ensure that students are able to achieve mastery. Please know that the curriculum team is working closely with classroom teachers, coaches, and specialists to adjust next year’s learning scope and sequence in order to address any unfinished learning.
Staffing
We congratulate Hilde Kaurish, preK speech and language pathologist (SLP), on her retirement. She has been a shining light in our preschool program for many years and we will deeply miss the gifted way she works with our youngest students, as well as her calm competence. We wish her the very best in her well-earned retirement. We warmly welcome Mary Ellen Heilman as our new preK SLP. Mary Ellen is an experienced and talented addition to our staff.
We warmly welcome back from maternity leave our dear Ashley Irving who will be teaching grade 1 next year. She most recently taught grade 3, but has also served as a literacy tutor in the primary grades prior to that. Ashley is taking the place of Kristin Hatfield who I am sorry to say is moving out of town. We have loved having Kristin with us for the past 2 years.
We wish all the best to these wonderful staff members who are moving on to other adventures including: Brenda Lewis (ABA tutor), Lissa Iwaski (Library tutor), and Dana Rodwin (TA). I also want to give a huge shout out to Mary Jane Summers who served as a grade 4, grade 3, and grade 1 teacher this year for multiple long-term staff leaves and she adjusted to each one so brilliantly in this crazy year.
Placement
On August 16, you will be able to log into your Aspen account to find out your child’s teacher assignment for next year. If you are a current family, you will be able to see the placement of your incoming kindergarten child, if you have one. If you are not a current family yet, please know that new families and incoming kindergarten families will receive their placement in the U.S. mail that week.
Ticks
I heard from one of our moms that there may be ticks on the Noyes property. We do treat for ticks during school breaks and cut the grass regularly, but out of an abundance of caution, I wanted to alert you so that you check your children. It’s a good reminder at this time of year to check for ticks regularly anyway.
We have been tested this year and I don’t just mean pool tested! There was a lot to overcome. Let's celebrate how resilient, flexible, patient, and cooperative we all were in order to make this year as meaningful and rewarding as it could be for our students. Bravo!! Now is the time to relax and enjoy the precious summer months. We know now more than ever what’s most important. We wish you and your family a safe and joyful summer.
Warmly,
Annette Doyle
