Mercutio
People should not be funny all the time or they will die.
Act 1 Scene 4
People should not be funny all the time, Mercutio says, "You are a lover. Borrow cupid's wings and soar with them above a common bound"(1009). Mercutio is speaking to Romeo trying to get him to come out of his room. Mercutio is trying to cheer up Romeo and being funny because Romeo can't marry Rosealine because she didn't want to.
Act 2 Scene 1
Mercutio fails to get Romeo out of his room and says, "I conjure thee by Rosaline's bright eyes, by her high forehead and her scarlet lip, by her fine foot, straight leg, and whivering thigh..."(1021). Mercutio is still talking to Romeo trying to get him out of his room. Mercutio is still joking with Romeo saying that Rosaline is right outside and is reminding him how beautiful she is so he will come out.
Act 2 Scene 4
Romeo and Tybalt were fighting without intentions to kill each other and Mercutio says, "I am hurt"(1047). Tybalt stabbed Mercutio on accident and Mercutio is telling everyone he is hurt but since he is always joking nobody believes him.
Act 3 Scene 1
As everyone kept laughing at Mercutio thinking he wasn't hurt he said, "Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man"(1047). Mercutio was telling everyone that he would not be alive tomorrow because he was always funny it caused nobody to believe he was hurt and he died.
