RHS Parent Weekly Update
Riverside High School Sept. 13 - Sept. 17
Greetings Pirate Family,
Thank you for all your support during these first weeks of school. As a reminder, the earliest students can be dropped off is 8:30 am. This is because our staff are not on duty until that time. Our instructional day begins at 9:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm. We do not allow early check-out after 3:40 pm.
Please make sure that your student has a mask and speak with them about proper mask-wearing throughout the day. Masks must cover the student's nose and mouth.
SMART Lunch will continue. We ask students to be aware of who they eat lunch with during SMART lunch to complete their SMART Lunch attendance form.
In addition, if your student is unwell or feeling sick, please keep them at home until they are symptom-free, have a negative COVID test, or have another diagnosis from a medical professional. If your student is unwell, please call the main office to notify them.
If your student should be diagnosed with COVID-19, please contact the school immediately. There are specific protocols in place that include but are not limited to quarantining, contact tracing, and notifications that must occur.
Thank you for your assistance in helping us keep all students and staff safe.

RHS Event Update
The Virtual Curriculum Night will take place Thursday, September 30th from 6 pm - 7:30 pm.
We hope the advanced notice will help families create space in their evenings to attend this event virtually.
Attention, Pirate Seniors!!!
The Students Services Counseling Team will be hosting Senior Advisements for all Seniors during the 2nd period each day from Wednesday, Sept. 22nd through Friday, Sept. 24th. During these sessions, all Seniors will receive valuable information regarding the college and career planning process and a chance to review their transcripts, ensuring that everything is correct before sending them to various colleges and universities for the college application process. Be on the lookout for your assigned day! In addition, our Senior Virtual Parent Night is tentatively planned for Thursday, Sept. 23rd, at 6 pm. Thank you, and have a wonderful week.
AP Kick Off Night
We invite all families to join us for AP Kick-Off Night 2021 on Tuesday, September 21st. Our advanced academics specialist, Mrs. Stone, will share strategies to help students succeed in AP classes, resources for students currently enrolled in AP courses, and tips for students who are interested in taking an AP class in the future. Students and families will also have a chance to meet some of our AP teachers. The event will be held virtually on Zoom from 6-7 PM. Please check our homepage for the meeting link.
Attention 11th graders - PSAT/NMSQT will be administered here at Riverside on the morning of Wednesday, October 13. While the PSAT/NMSQT is optional and costs $18 (we do have fee waivers available), we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. THE PSAT/NMSQT is not only excellent practice for the SAT but also can facilitate access to scholarship opportunities and targeted information about college admission and financial aid. To learn more about the features of the PSAT/NMSQT, here is the link to their website (which also includes practice questions and strategies).
If you are interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 13, please complete this google form by this Monday (September 13). The last question on the google form survey asks if you would like to apply for a fee waiver or would like to pay the $18 registration fee. To pay the fee online, here is the link to our online school payment center. Please email Will Okun with any questions.
Student Arrival and Dismissal
Thank you for your assistance with dismissal. Last week's dismissal process was much improved in terms of time and safety. We will continue with all cars in the junior lot will go right out of the parking lot and out to Rose of Sharon Road. FOR DISMISSAL ONLY, cars picking up students in the RHS front loop will enter in the reverse pattern and turn left to exit around the back of the school past the cafeteria and tennis courts and out to Rose of Sharon.
Here are a few other tips to improve arrival and dismissal traffic.
- Have your student ride the bus
- Have your student enter or be seated on the side the allows for the easiest drop-off and pick-up
- Make sure students have all their belongings and are ready to enter and/or exit the vehicle
- Follow the directions of the RHS arrival and dismissal staff
