Season of Gratitude
I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. This time of year provides us with the opportunity to reflect on the many blessings that surround us and to appreciate the strong sense of community that defines our Manavon and Early Learning Center family. Thank you for entrusting us with the education and care of your children. Your partnership is invaluable, and we appreciate the collaboration and support you provide to ensure the success of our students. As we embrace the season of gratitude, let us continue to foster a spirit of kindness, compassion, and generosity within our school community. Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of those around us and create lasting memories for our children. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season filled with warmth, laughter, and moments of reflection.

Turkeys in Disguise
Fourth grade ELA writing classes wrote creatively! Students disguised turkeys and wrote stories from the turkeys' perspective.
Understanding Homelessness
Students in Mrs. Makos' class had a guest reader! Mrs. Hernandez, the district's Home and School Visitor, read to the students about hunger and homelessness.
Fifth Grade Science
Fifth graders are learning about Living Systems by organizing producers, consumers, and decomposers in the Kelp Forest Ecosystem into food webs. The students mapped out how the energy moves through the ecosystem and how it is recycled back in!
Read with the Principal
Carnival Games in STEM
For the Fall Carnival Game Challenge, fifth graders were asked to use recycled materials to create a game that would be found at a Fall Carnival. The students used a class period to plan out the aspects of their game, including the design and the materials. Then, over the next classes, the students brought materials from home and worked with their group to construct their games. On the day before Thanksgiving Break, some lucky second graders in Mrs. Chelli's class got to play the carnival games while the fifth graders got to show off their hard work. Everyone had a great time.

Got Sneakers? Fundraiser
From October 30th to December 1st Manavon HSA is starting a community and district wide collection of used sneakers. Drop them off in the large box at the front entrance of Manavon Elementary or send them in with your Manavon student. Our goal is to collect 300 pairs of sneakers!
No sneaker is too used to be recycled (even a single shoe)! Only athletic and rubber cleats can be accepted to be recycled. The sneakers collected will raise money to help support Manavon Elementary AND will help our environment by keeping sneakers out of landfills. Did you know shoes in landfills can take 30-40 years to decompose?! Let's keep those sneakers out of landfills!
Check out their sneaker guidelines here sneaker guidelines and email manavonhs@gmail.com with any other questions! Thanks in advance for your participation and support!

Birthday/Holiday Treats
Due to the many students with allergies and food reactions food items to celebrate student birthdays are not permitted. We are requesting that all birthday recognitions be non-food based. We do want to acknowledge student birthdays but encourage families to do so in other ways. For example, small items such as pencils or stickers for classmates or the donation of a book to the school or classroom library in honor of a child’s birthday would be appropriate. Thank you for honoring and respecting this request.
Holiday celebrations will be held in compliance with School Board Policy #246 Student Wellness. The policy states “The district recognizes that classroom parties and celebrations are a tradition at school. School staff and parents/guardians are encouraged to include healthy food offerings, as defined in this policy, at school parties and events to support a healthy environment throughout the district.” Policy 246 can be viewed in its entirety by visiting the district’s website.
Holiday celebrations and end-of-year classroom celebrations will be announced in advance for parents to be prepared in determining food choices with their children. Birthday celebrations are held randomly and do not allow for parent awareness prior to the event in the school setting, which contributed to the decision for birthday recognitions to be non-food based.
