Message from the Principal
Schweitzer students and families,
We are excited to celebrate Read Across America this week! Beginning Monday, March 1st, we will be having Spirit Days throughout the week to celebrate Dr. Seuss and the joy of reading. We also have Reading Challenge BINGO boards for students to complete and have a Door Decorating Contest and guest readers throughout the week. WE LOVE TO READ AT SCHWEITZER! Please encourage your child to read and take time each day to explore a new book together. Make it part of your family's regular schedule.
You can see from the photo above (Andie Chavez-4th Grade), that we are continuing with our CARES stickers and incentives to reward students for making good choices every day. CARES is our school-wide positive behavior system. Students that receive a CARES sticker get announced the next day on the morning announcements. We are also doing drawings of students each month with prizes such as gift cards or free passes to a local favorite. Congratulations to all of our recent CARES sticker recipients. Parents, be sure to provide your own rewards for your child if they come home with a CARES sticker. They mean a great deal in our school community!
I also wanted to remind parents and families that students will be going back to in-person instruction 5 days a week beginning the week of March 5th. That means that students will be in school Fridays beginning March 12th. We are currently down to 60 students or 14% of our students that are currently on Plan D. We continue to encourage families that are online learners to join the daily live ZOOM meetings with their peers to be a part of the conversation in daily lessons.
Stay Healthy,
Dr. Amy Orlando

Dear Schweitzer Families,
This is the second of three issues of the Title I Newsletter for the 2020-21 school year. It is published to keep you up to date and informed about what is happening in Title I. This issue is dedicated to familiarizing families with the nuts and bolts of five big areas of reading plus print awareness. The buttons at the end of the newsletter are linked to several home-strategies to support parents and guardians in working on reading related skills with their youngsters.
Sincerely,
Ms. Maurizi
Title I Reading Specialist & Coordinator
We are excited to celebrate National 'Read Across America' Day on March 2nd! To celebrate reading, we are doing many activities at Schweitzer next week. Please be sure to encourage your child to participate in the activities including Spirit Days and Reading Challenge Boards.
Spirit Days-Please join in the daily spirit days this week! Flyers should have been sent home, and the spirit days are also provided below.
Reading Challenge Boards-Classroom teachers are sending home Reading Challenge Boards to be completed in the month of March. Please join your child in completing activities on the Bingo Boards. By completing them, students will be awarded a raffle ticket and have the opportunity to win a free basket of books. Once the weather gets nicer, students will also be invited outside for a popsicle party to celebrate.
Guest Readers-Administrators and teachers will be creating online videos of them reading aloud a Dr. Seuss book or their favorite book. These will be shared with classroom teachers, and students will see that EVERYONE loves to read!
Door Decorating Contest-In honor of Dr. Seuss, teachers will be decorating classroom doors with their favorite Dr. Seuss book or character. The PTO is sponsoring a pretzel party for
the 2 winning doors!

Safety Reminders for Parents
- Send your child to school with 1-2 clean masks every day. Wash them regularly to keep them clean and sanitized.
- Remind your child of the importance of maintaining social distancing and wearing masks.
- Model for your child appropriate expectations such as wearing a mask when picking up your child and washing/sanitizing your hands often.
- Be mindful of the family activities outside of school. No matter how diligent we are in school with our health and safety plan, everyone needs to do their best to maintain precautions outside of school hours.
- Complete the Health Check Symptom Screener each morning with your child(ren). It's important to take your child's temperature and pay attention to any symptoms to keep your child and everyone at school safe.

Schweitzer Families,
Thank you to everyone who sent in pictures for the Share the Love slideshow. The kids loved seeing themselves, their friends, and the rest of the Schweitzer family with who and what they love! We are continuing to work on fundraisers for the rest of the year to continue improving the playground. Be on the lookout for information on a Pot Of Gold cash raffle in March, a Nothing Bundt Cakes cake sale for Mother's Day, and Duck Donuts! Also, please continue to collect and send in your Redner's receipts and ShopRite receipts. Those are a quick, easy way to help us earn money for our school. Thank you for all of your support as we navigate this unprecedented year!
