Summer 2021

Principal's Pen

It’s hard to believe, but we made it. Everyone has earned a great summer off and I hope community, students, and staff take the time they need to recharge. Next year we will have a new look to the building, with a couple of new staff members coming in, but I think I can speak for everyone when I say I hope everything else goes back to the old ways.

I know that some have been far more affected by COVID than others, and to those who went through a difficult time you were always in our thoughts. I want to thank our staff who went above and beyond to keep everyone safe, but also provided as many extras as they could. This is a group who understands the importance of academics, but equally understands the importance of all the other pieces that schools provide.

I want to thank our students. We didn’t always agree on the restrictions, but for the most part they respected what we had to do to keep them in the building. They worked hard, and didn’t have the year they expected, but many found a way to get the most out of the year they had.

I also want to thank the parents. There was support behind some very difficult decisions. We did not expect people to be happy all the time, but I will say that the issues we had were few and far between and that certainly made the job we had to do much more manageable.

Finally I want to thank the community. I received many messages, or just was stopped uptown saying thank you for doing what we had to do. It is a difficult position to be in, but when someone comes up and validates what you are doing it goes much farther than the person realizes. We have an amazing community and have had their support for a very long time and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

We have said this year is exhausting. Every decision has to be scrutinized. Things that were an obvious yes in the past, now needs to be put through the lens of a pandemic. I know everyone is looking forward to a time when that is not the case, I guarantee the people in our building are no different.

Thanks and we will see you next year.
