MMW List Server Message
May 1, 2015
Hello Maureen M. Welch Parents,
I hope that all is well and that each of you is enjoying the fantastic weather this week. Warmer conditions outside can remind us of baseball and softball, but it's also the sign at schools that Field Day is soon. Next Friday, May 8th, we have our Field Day activities at Welch, and I'd like to welcome parents to join us for this great event. To assist parents who are planning to attend, a schedule of events and the map of the fields can be found at the following links:
In addition, students can show their support and school spirit by wearing their team colors. Field Day T-Shirts are now available at the School Store for $6.00 each. Buy it early to guarantee the correct size. Parents can click HERE to check their child's team color.
Blood Drive at MMW
The PTO will be hosting an American Red Cross blood drive in the school gymnasium on Monday, May 11th. The drive will be from 3pm-8pm. Appointments are preferred and can be made by signing up online at www.redcrossblood.org. You will need to enter Sponsor Code: Welch for our registration table of time slots.
Did you know that every day in the United States, roughly 44,000 pints of blood are needed? Every donation may help save up to three lives. Please consider donating. Tell your family, friends and neighbors. This is not just a Welch event, this is open to the entire community. Questions? Please email the PTO at email@example.com.
Teacher Appreciation Activities
The Welch PTO is organizing several wonderful activities to thank the staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Next Wednesday’s theme is Be “Phanatical” about showing your appreciation for your teachers, as students are encouraged to wear their favorite baseball jersey or t-shirt.
Cafeteria Menu Change
There has been a chance to the cafeteria menu for this Monday, May 4th. The menu will be: personal pan pizza, turkey and cheese sandwich or salad. The switch is due to the fact we have Field Day on Friday, May 8th, and we didn’t want to provide hot dogs twice in one week to the students.
This Saturday, there are four MMW students who will be competing at the 24 Tournament at Bucks County Community College. These students are Kylie Gregory, Carper Wiggins, Brandon Parkansky and Daniel Alpert, and we wish them the best of luck in representing our school!
March for Babies
Thanks so much to the MMW student council for organizing our March for Babies donation collection and walk. The activity was a great success as the children had a lot of fun as we raised $932.57 for this worthy cause. Thank you!
Cradles to Crayons
The art teachers of Council Rock invite you to join us as they support children in need in our local communities. In partnership with the Cradles to Crayons Organization we will be collecting new art supplies and school supplies to inspire creativity in others. We ask that you donate items (crayons, markers, notebooks, pencils, craft kits, backpacks, etc) by placing them in bins located outside of Mrs. Cole's art room anytime before May 8th. This is a great opportunity for the children and students of Council Rock to give to others who are in need. To date, Cradles to Crayons has helped over 250,000 children. Let’s help to increase that number significantly!
PTO Clothing Drive
The MMW PTO would like to thank all who participated in their Spring Clothing Drive. They collected 4,730 pounds of clothing earning $946.00 for the organization!
Wildcat 5k Follow-Up
The race participation totals are in and the class that had the most participation in the 2015 Welch Wildcat 5k and Fun Run was Mrs. Rosica's 6th grade class. They had almost 70% participation! Their classroom will receive the coveted Welch Wildcat 5k trophy and each student will receive a Go Bananas gift card. Great job!
The donation totals are in, as well. All those that collected at least $100 in donations will receive a Go Bananas gift card and will be notified by email within the week. The top three donators will receive a family movie pack. They are: 1st place – the Holt Family, 2nd place – Cole Griffin, and 3rd place – the Nemeth Family. Congratulations and thank you for donating to the Welch Wildcat 5k! In addition, the PTO raised over $15,000.00 from donations, race sponsors and the basket raffle!
Class List Process and Parent Input
Below is a link to a letter to parents about how the staff and I will soon begin the formal process of creating class lists for the 2015-2016 school year. It is the policy of the Council Rock School District that parents’ information will be solicited each year for classroom placement. Be sure to read over the letter for more information. All requests should be placed in an email with a reason for your request and sent to me no later than today, May 1st. You may email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nor’wester Readers Dog Walk & Family Fair
The Nor'wester Readers Canine Assisted Learning Program uses registered therapy dogs to enhance the educational environment so that children are motivated to work on their reading, writing and communication skills. In addition, these dogs also work with school guidance counselors and psychologists to support students with social and emotional needs. Come join the Dog Walk & Family Fair Fundraiser event at Tyler State Park this Saturday, May 2nd. You do not have to have a dog or bring a dog to join the fun! Enjoy additional features such as Carnival Games, Face Painting, Carol Wagner’s Dancing Dogs, Police K-9 Demonstrations, Pony Rides, exhibits, and much more.
