WHY WIBIT WHY?? by Coach Ron Turner
Hello RAYS and LAPS families! We recently held one of our yearly WIBIT parties, and as in the past, it was a huge success! Now you may think "well how in the world does a couple of hours of playing on an aquatic bouncy-house play a role in being a better swimmer?" Well, the answer is easy: it's a part of the PROCESS that we as RAYS coaches preach to swimmers wanting to get better!
It's easy to get caught up in the traditional belief of swimming lap after mindless lap every day, more is better (I was a product of this, believe me!). There have been tons of studies done by psychologists looking to find out the common denominator or successful swimmers (not just in the pool, but mentally and physically as well). The successful swimmers all felt an inward happiness about what they were doing daily. The successful swimmers all were in excellent physical shape because they were balancing technical swimming with smart and safe dryland, which captivated their interest (and again, contributed to their well-being). Finally, the successful swimmers all enjoyed some kind of social benefit, most often outside the pool. For the world-class level athletes, this would be the travel, the training camps, and the camaraderie with their friends. For the beginning age group swimmers, this would include games at practice, team dinners, intrasquad meets with their teammates, and yes....WIBIT PARTIES!
Parents, always remember: the development of your swimmer mentally, physically, and socially... this is what our RAYS team and LAPS groups are all about! We're glad you're a part of it!
See you at the pool!

SWIM-A-THON IS HERE!
We're excited to kick off the Stingrays 2019 Swim-A-Thon!
Each year our team steps up and raises money to help our RAYS swimmers and swimmers all over the country. Proceeds help subsidize scholarships, travel, water fees and team equipment costs.
This year's Swim-A-Thon will begin the week of October 28.
The Swim-A-Thon is a great opportunity to help offset the $150 Family Commitment Charge (more on this below).
The Online Fundraiser is now active on the Stingrays Website! The Fundraiser system on our website offers easy templates for emailing prospects and tracking your donations.
There will be prizes awarded at our 2020 Stingrays Banquet to the swimmers that raise the most money!
This year's Swim-A-Thon will begin the week of October 28 with a format conducted at the discretion of each group's coach at our three sites.
Family Commitment Charge
This year the charge has been reduced to $150 for each family. (Due December 1st).
This can be split into two $75 payments (December and January 1st) by emailing your request to Coach Ian (coachian@stingraysswimming.com) by November 15th.
All monies from this charge go towards our 501C3 which is earmarked for Athlete needs only.
Swim-A-Thon will be held in the fall as one avenue to raise money for this charge.
Although the commitment charge is mandatory, the Swim-A-Thon gives the swimmer’s family the opportunity to defray costs by raising money that would otherwise have been a direct charge to the swimmer’s family.
Alternatively, the funds contributed by the swimmer’s family may be tax-deductible, in part or in whole, as a charitable contribution.
Consult your tax professional as Stingrays Swimming is not a tax expert and does not purport to be such.
Summertime LAPS Opportunity!
Would your Summer League/Neighborhood Pool like to host LAPS? We did it this summer at the Pines in Marietta and it was a great success!
If this sounds intriguing, please contact Coach Pike for Cobb County area (coachpike@stingraysswimming.com) or
