Mrs. Turley's Tidbits
Week of 3/20 - 3/24
We Made It to SPRING BREAK!
Fundations:
We finished Unit 11 and began Unit 12! Now we are learning the -oi and -oy sounds! We learned that -oy is found at the end of most words and -oi is found at the beginning and middle of most words.
Literacy:
This week we practiced for the writing component of our Non-Fiction assessment--we practiced comparing and contrasting two texts on the same topic. This is Common Core Standard RI.2.9 - I can compare the most important points found in two texts on the same topic. We took our Unit Assessment for Non-Fiction. We read two articles on bats. We also had a writing component where we compared and contrasted the two articles. We are super-compare/contrast writers! Wait until you see our work in our next Wednesday Folder!
Math:
We learned how to subtract 3-digit numbers with regrouping. We took our Unit 4 assessment and made corrections. We have really grown as mathematicians! We will be going on to our next unit after Spring Break which is Geometry!
Writing Workshop:
We finished our second Non-fiction writing unit! We made really fun Google Slide Shows to publish our writing. We even added the Google Slide shows into SeeSaw. If you haven't already done so, please add the app into your phone or tablet at home to see all of the new projects that we are doing! I am sending home the information again today. You will see there that there are lots of fun projects that your 2nd grader has done!
Dinosaur/Fingerprinting Activity:
We discussed dinosaurs and fossils again this week. We then talked about how our fingerprints are like fossils. They can identify ourselves...in fact, not even identical twins have the same fingerprints. We then got our own fingerprints done by using pencils and scotch tape. We analyzed what type...Arch, Loop, Circle and then put that information into a graph. Be sure to ask your budding paleontologist/detective all about this Fingerprint Activity!
Mismatch Sock Day! Let's celebrate what makes us unique!
Aniyah used her "Sit Anywhere" Pass and chose the teacher's desk!
Frankie used his "Teach for Turley" and led our Fundations Lesson. He has a talent for teaching!
A Go Noodle with the Smurfs to get our brains energized!
Our fingerprints activity was great fun!
The study of fingerprints is called "dactylography," that almost sounds like a dinosaur!
Helping our pals in Ms. Valentour's room with their dino slide shows.
Working together is always fun.
Wow! That was easy!
