Dear parents and caregivers,

No one can say that Term Three was dull! It was certainly jammed packed with lots of great learning, fun experiences and wonderful community building events. Thank you to all our staff, students and parents for contributing to this crazy term!

Thank you to Mrs Manov and Mr Tomlinson for a fantastic week of recognising and celebrating Deaf Awareness and International Week of Sign Language. Q-Sign Games, Power of Speech presentations and talks around dealing with hearing loss were the many highlights of the week. Well done to the Year Five students on creating and playing great games for the elderly from Mercy Care.

I would like to inform the school community that Ms Nguyen will be taking leave in Term Four and I would like to welcome Mrs Megan Proud to our staff as her replacement. Please make her feel welcome.

To finish off a fantastic term, I would like to wish everyone a happy and relaxing holiday. For those that may be travelling around our beautiful state or overseas, please stay safe. I look forward to seeing everyone return for our final term of 2023. I will be taking Long Service Leave for the first two weeks of Term Four. Mrs Emma Fernandez will be Acting Principal while I am away.

Wishing you all a safe and relaxing holiday and remind you that Term Four begins on Tuesday, October 10.

God bless

Rebecca Clarke

International Deaf Awareness Week and International Week of Sign Language

This week, we have celebrated International Deaf Awareness Week and International Week of Sign Language with daily events. All classes have increased their knowledge and awareness of those in our school and the wider community who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

As a school we ‘loudly’ celebrated ‘Loud Shirt Day’ Thank you to the Telethon Speech & Hearing team of Mr Tomlinson and Mrs Chan Saw who led our Loud Shirt Day talks and demonstrated specialised equipment so we could gain a better understanding of hearing and the ear. A special mention to the Year 2 class who tie dyed their own shirts to wear for the day.
We were gifted the opportunity to hear Eleanor, Ethan, Klay, Wilson and Jordan’s ‘Power of Speech’ speeches. The children shared informative and humorous stories about their lives and their favourite things. What a triumph!

The Year 5’s created games to teach invitees from Mercy Care and RAISE.org the key word signs of the Qsign Project.. Beti, St Elizabeth's, Auslan Mentor, shared her life story. She kindly finished her talk with a question-and-answer session where students gained personal insight into the life of a Deaf person.

  2. Qsign Games - Community entry

The awards only allow for one vote to be placed. We look forward to your support!

Place you vote for our school: Sacred Space

Quality Catholic Education – People’s Choice Award

VOTE FOR: St Elizabeth’s entry for ‘Sacred Space’ in Religious Education category

‘Be still and know that I am God’ (Psalm 46:10). The simplicity of being still can bring us closer to God. The St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary School sacred space has embraced the opportunity to be quiet and still with God, in His creation. The space celebrates our natural bush setting. Designated pathways were created using fallen logs from the property and the purpose of the space was defined by a simple, wooden cross. The sacred space supports personal faith formation and classroom learning. Children can reflect in the space during breaks and families can access the space for personal reflection or community prayer.

OR Place your vote for our school: Qsign Game

VOTE FOR: St Elizabeth’s entry for ‘Qsign Game Day’ in RELEGIOUS EDUACTION category

Quality Catholic Education – People’s Choice Award

The 20 key words of the ‘Qsign Project’ provide basic communication of an individual’s health and safety needs and supports family interactions. This has relevance for all but especially for those in aged care. The Year Five and Six students at St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary School, learnt the project signs and created games to teach them. A group of clients from aged care and other retirees, attended a morning of learning, followed by a shared morning tea. The ‘Qsign Games Day’ is now an annual event, providing interaction with the elderly and engaging students to support the dignity and quality of life of the participants.
