Did You Know.....

Each week I try to call out one thing about our school or staff that parents and student's may not know...

The district has opportunities for Parent/Teacher conferences in the Fall and the Spring. At Slackwood, we have some opportunities for parent conference in February. Not all parents or students will have conferences but your teachers will be talking to you if they would like to conference.

We Need Your HELP!

As you know, the school day starts at 8:00. Students actually have work beginning at 7:45. We need your help to make sure that students get here on time. If they arrive at 8 or later, they are missing out on instruction and are interrupting other students and staff. Just the other day we had 12 students arrive late and have to sign in. Five of them are kindergarteners. That means that someone has to stop the work they are doing and walk them out to the modular.

Please try to get your students here early. If they are here right at 8 o'clock we will accept them but they are actually late because work starts at 8. At 8:01 they must come to the front door and a parent must sign them in. THANK YOU!

Talking To Kids About Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Here is a really nice article for you to use to talk to your children about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

These things happened this week!

Missing something? Check out the Lost and Found!

Each day I walk by the Lost and Found, which is directly across from the library and I wonder, "How could someone not know that they are missing a winter jacket?" Do you wonder that too? If you are missing clothing, including gloves, hats, sweatshirts, gloves, etc. make sure that you check out the Lost and Found.

One way to avoid having things fall into the abyss is to make sure you write your child's name on clothing items. If there is a name on it, we'll be sure to get it back to them. Put it on the inside tag or collar. Anywhere we can find it will be helpful.

Questions to ask your child when they come home from school

When you ask your child,"How was your day?", do they give an answer like, "Fine." Here is a great article for parents to help you ask different questions that may spark conversations.
