MLK Day of Service Snack Bag Project
Every year the students are able to participate in a service project in conjunction with a Kids Care Club event for the MLK day of service, where snack bags are filled to give to the Bucks County Housing Authority. These bags are distributed to students in need. Gayman students have always enjoyed being a part of this worthwhile event. Due to this year’s restrictions, we are requesting food donations be sent in for the snack bags which will be put together by adult volunteers. Please see the attached Signup Genius for items that are needed.
Please send any donations into school by January 20th. A collection box will be located outside the cafeteria for the food donations.
Submit Your 2020-2021 Yearbook Photos
Happy New Year, Gayman families! Let’s capture all of the hard work and fun of our Gayman students in the new year! Keep uploading pictures of your student(s) at work and play. To access this Forms Survey, please follow the link and login through your child’s CBSD login.
For this month, upload photos from the snow day, the Holiday season/class celebrations, or simply your child(ren) working hard. Thank you for helping us share in your child’s memories!
Please email Jennifer Kersey, teacher and liaison to GHSA Yearbook Committee, jkersey@cbsd.org with any questions.
Absences
Online Absences: If a student does not attend class, the student will be marked absent until we receive the communication from parents. Note: If a student logs-in initially, but leaves the call or does not engage, the comment "Virtually Cut" will be added to the comments section.
Feel free to reach out to Christine Stevens (cstevens@cbsd.org) with any questions.
Live Streaming
Live streaming is available for any student who is absent more than 2 days because the child tested positive for COVID-19, or the child is a close contact of someone who tested positive. Live streaming is also available for any student who traveled outside of Pennsylvania.
Once a teacher is notified, we will make arrangements including a materials pick-up at school. Live streaming will begin on day 3 of the absence, or earlier if feasible. This instruction may vary slightly depending upon the academic needs and age of the student. Live streaming will end when the isolation period is complete. Note: knowing that the majority of students in the class are in-person, there will be times when the teacher is not in camera view.
Family Travel
If your child(ren) is traveling, complete a Request for Approved Absence Form. In compliance with the district's Health and Safety Plan, students who travel will not be able to return for a period of 10 days without testing, or after 7 days with a negative test on or after day 5.
Any questions about this procedure can be directed to Christine Stevens in the Gayman Office, at cstevens@cbsd.org.

Find Your Spark
Wouldn’t it be great if we all knew what our “spark” was as a young child. As a parent, when did you discover your spark? Understanding the concept of spark yourself is beneficial in discussing the idea with your child. Typically, 60% of children can identify their spark by the time they are 12 years old. This may or may not be the case for your child(ren). To encourage this discovery, find an opportunity when you and your child can have alone time to talk about it (e.g., driving in the car). Here are some helpful questions to start the conversation from the book Sparks by Peter L Benson, PhD (2008):
· What makes you jump out of bed in the morning?
· What makes you dread getting out of bed in the morning? (Eliminating ideas can be as important as discovery.)
· What day is your favorite day of the week? Why?
· If you could spend the whole day doing something you chose to do, what would that be?
· What makes you really happy?
· Who are your adult role models?
Among the most common sparks reported by children are the creative arts, athletics, and learning. Some children find their sparks in areas that are less common. It may be hard for some children, especially teenagers, to do something that few others do. It is important that we encourage our children to find their own spark and path.

- Determine if your child(ren) is a close contact.
- Explain the isolation and quarantine process.
- Provide guidance for symptoms and management.
- And more! .... just ask.
