January 2015

Westshore Club

Newsflash - Club Updates

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season full of friends, family, and delicious food:) And welcome to 2015! We have so many exciting things planned for the upcoming month - and the rest of the school year.

After some very consistent and persistent feedback from the participants, we have decided to take a break from our Tuesday out-trip to the Outdoor Centre. We realize however that some (few) participants enjoyed this weekly outing so we will re-evaluate this decision in February and potentially start re-introducing the Tuesdays in March or April. In lieu of this out-trip, in January we will be spending 20-30 minutes at the beginning of our program everyday at the playground at David Cameron school. We have been finding that the participants have a LOT of energy by the time we get off the bus at Wale Rd and we have a very limited outdoor space, so we are hoping this will help to expend some of this energy before we return to our indoor space. As such, we will not be arriving at Wale Rd until approximately 4pm (with the exception of rainy days of course) so please contact us if you need to pick up your child before then and we can coordinate a pick-up time.

Also new in 2015 - we have two new staff starting. We were sad to say good-bye to Dave in December but are thrilled to welcome Rylan and Samantha to our staff team! Samantha joins us as the new Team Lead for the Westshore Club, with tons of experience coaching and working with school age youth. Rylan joins us from the Esquimalt/Vic West Boys & Girls Clubs as a program leader and starting in January they both will be working Monday to Friday at the Westshore Club!

On Friday, January 30th, we will be hosting an open house in our youth room at Wale Road for all of the agencies in the building, local community partners, and anyone interested in the programs and services that Boys & Girls Club has to offer in the Westshore. The open house will be from 10am-noon and will have coffee/tea and some treats - please feel free to drop by if you are in the area and pass this information on to anyone else who might be interested in attending.

2) Spring Break Camp registration will open January 15th for internal participants.
