An Amazing Start to a Fantastic School Year!
Thank you to parents, students, and staff for making the first week of school a huge success. Overall, students jumped right back into the swing of school. Everyone is learning procedures and routines, even our new students and kindergarten students have adjusted beautifully. School wide, we already had our first fire drill and storm weather drill for the month of August. I am always fearful that our younger students may become frightened or overwhelmed by the loud siren warning signals, but everyone did fantastic. We are all truly excited for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. On behalf of the Edgelea staff, we thank you for entrusting your most precious children to us. We looking forward to learning and growing together this school year.
Preparing for a strong school year!
It is a myth that teachers have the summer off! Many teachers spent countless hours preparing classrooms, learning new teaching strategies, attending educational conferences, and participating in educational book studies this summer.
On August 1st, the Edgelea staff participated in professional development with a focus on understanding that children need calming classroom environments in which to learn. School wide, we are committed to cultivating peaceful, engaged classrooms by empowering students with mindfulness activities, breathing strategies, and opportunities to process learning through exercise and brain breaks. If we want to empower students, we must show them how they can control their own cognitive and emotional health and their own learning. Teaching students how their brain works is a huge step. Even young students can learn strategies for priming their brains to learn more effectively.
As you walk throughout our building, you will notice our new "sensory paths" in the hallways. These were designed to provided children with exercise and movement opportunities. We also have a hallway with breathing stations and yoga stations. Our school occupational therapist is working to create "Minds In Motion" in our school this year, too. As we work to transform our hallways and classrooms, please know this is an ongoing task and will not be complete for quite a while but we are heading in the right direction.
Edgelea has two sensory paths....check them out!
- It helps to build nerve connections in the brain.
- It encourages the development of motor skills.
- It supports language development.
- It encourages 'scientific thinking' and problem solving.
- It can involve mindful activities which are beneficial for all children.

Load and Go! It is working!
WOW!!! We had all students loaded in their cars and the last car left the lot at 3:01. That is UNBELIEVABLE for the second day of school. THANK YOU to every person who is focused and helping our students leave the building calmly and successfully. It does take the entire village. Please know that we appreciate your help and effort before and after school. We are making a better, safer, calmer entry and exit for our children. THANK YOU to parents and staff members!!!
Great news! The Lafayette School Corporation School Board and central office administration continue to work towards building Edgelea a better, bigger, and safer parking lot for pick up and dismissal. It is slated for construction in 2020.
All Pro Dads
All Pro Dads will meet the first Friday of ever month between 7:00 and 7:45 am. (No breakfast meeting in January and May). All Pro Dads serve a simple breakfast of donuts or pancakes.
