Cystic Fibrosis
Information on Cystic Fibrosis
what is Cystic Fibrosis? (CF)
Cystic Fibrosis or CF is a hereditary disease affecting your exocrine glands. It causes the production of abnormally thick mucus which clogs the air ways. This disease was discovered by Dr.Dorothy Hansine Anderson in 1905. This genetic disorder can change your life dramatically.
Symptom's and life expectancy
Some symptoms for CF are very salty tasting skin, persistent coughing sometimes with phlegm, frequent lung infections including pneumonia, and shortened breath and wheezing. If you have any of these go to the doctor immediately. The expected life expectancy for some one with CF is about 37 years of age. CF is a very life threatening disease to have.
Other Info on CF
Some other information on CF is that it is a recessive trait, and that it is not very common in only about 25% of people actually get CF. To prove if u actually have CF is to take the sweat test. Earlier on in this page one of the symptoms was salty tasting skin so doctors use the sweat test to determine if u have CF. But very sadly there is no way to prevent cystic fibrosis from occurring. But lastly there are a few foundations to help with people who have CF. One is the Cystic Fibrosis foundation. Although I only said one there are many more foundations to help with this disease.
