Miss Tracey's Class

March 2014

Happy March!

As I am writing this, I am hoping you, too, are enjoying the beautiful sunshine and the warmer temperatures that we have been experiencing. We were finally able to go outside, in the afternoon class, last week; it was still too cold in the morning hours. Hopefully, we will get back to spending part of each day, outside, soon.

During the month of March, we will continue to delve into our favorite books and authors. In the morning class, we are reading Eric Litwin's Pete the Cat books; in the afternoon class, we are reading books by Dr. Seuss. After that, we will be moving onto community helpers. That being said, if you or someone you know would be interested in coming in to share their community job (i.e. - firefighter, doctor, police officer, baker, librarian, postal worker, grocer, hairdresser, etc.) with us, please be sure to let me know. We would love to learn more about what people do in our community.

Kindergarten Thoughts

Many of your children will be headed to Kindergarten next year, and we know that you and your child may be filled with many emotions. Please know that we will be doing a number of things on our end, to address the transition into Kindergarten, with your children. We have already started talking about the different "Kindergarten schools" that the children will attend. Additionally, we have begun to practice some of the things that they might see in a Kindergarten class. The afternoon class has recently authored and illustrated an ABC book, in the spirit of Dr. Seuss' ABC's. We told the children that we would be putting their pages on the bulletin board, in the hall, for the Kindergarteners to see. We also told them that once we take them down and bind them into a book, we will try to visit a Kindergarten class, to read it to them. This will be one of the first visits that we will be making to Kindergarten. We have many other things planned, to prepare your child for the transition.

There are many things that you can do at home, as well, to begin the transition process. Here are a few ideas:

  • Monday, March 17, 6-7 pm: Pizza and Movie Night (tentative)
  • Friday, March 28 - Sunday, April 6: Spring Break
