Join Nutrition Club - October 6th at 5pm
The UA Nutritional Science Club is an ASUA recognized non-profit organization run by nutrition students. Our mission is to promote healthy lifestyle choices and behavior change within the Tucson community. The club offers opportunities for nutrition students to:
- Gain community experience
- Develop professional and leadership skills
- Network with professionals in the field
- Make new friends
We partner with the UA Nutrition Network, Smart Moves, Body Smart, and other campus organizations to provide a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. The Nutritional Science Club also plans social outings and philanthropic events, such as the biannual UA Food Drive.

The UA Study Abroad Fair is an opportunity for students to learn about study abroad programs all in one place. Tables advertising our programs will be staffed by faculty members, alumni, exchange students and study abroad staff, all there to answer questions. Whether your students are interested in exploring all of the programs we have to offer or if they have a particular program in mind, this is an event they shouldn't miss!

Nutritional Sciences Diversity Task Force!
The Department of Nutritional Sciences is looking for two Nutritional Sciences majors to serve on the department’s Diversity Task Force. As a student member of this task force, you will be asked to attend 1-2 meetings per semester to provide input on Department initiatives geared towards promoting diversity and inclusion. You may also be called upon to provide feedback via email throughout the fall and spring semesters.

AmeriCorps Position
The Family Engagement Program at UA Cooperative Extension delivers free parenting classes for families with children aged 0-5. While parents attend class, we typically provide free child care and dinner. We are currently recruiting for two AmeriCorps positions for students interested in gaining hands-on experience with young children and family-centered program development. We are looking for candidates who can help with the following tasks:
· develop lesson plans and child care policies relating to age-appropriate activities;
· create language development and socialization opportunities that help children meet their milestones;
· coordinate and schedule child care providers;
· provide occasional training sessions for child care providers;
· seek out community resources for providing healthier meals to families; and
· offer brief presentations to parents during classes about healthy and inexpensive meal ideas.
Classes can be in the morning, afternoon or evening depending upon the need of the parents and the availability of the prospective AmeriCorps members. Both positions are 300 hours (approximately 8 hours/week between now and August 31st) and include stipends and an education award at the end. International Rescue Committee - Nutrition and Food Security Intern
Nutrition and Food Security Intern
Position Description:
The Nutrition and Food Security Intern works in close coordination with Reception and Placement Case Managers to educate newly arrived refugee families about nutrition and how to access nutritious foods in their communities. Through home visits and field trips, the NFS Intern will implement nutrition education curriculum around meal planning, food safety, storage, and health and wellness through diet choices. The goal of this program is to teach new families to make healthy meal choices from day one and be an active participant in their own preventative health plan.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with interpreters, case managers and newly arrived families to implement nutrition curriculum within first two weeks of arrival
- Transport families to local grocery stores to implement curriculum on how to identify and purchase nutritious foods
- Conduct follow up visits with the family to provide additional education around meal planning and selecting nutritious alternatives as appropriate for family composition
- Identify basic health issues related to nutritional deficiencies and adapt curriculum to meet these educational needs
- Track and document all field activities.
Requirements:
- Background in diet and nutrition education
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from other cultural backgrounds; strong interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated teaching skills, especially with English language learners
- Driver’s license, personal vehicle, auto insurance, and clean driving record and willingness to drive clients in personal vehicle.
- Ability to self-direct and communicate effectively
- Ability to multi-task and direct students of all ages in loud and unstructured environments
Commitment:
- 15 hrs/wk for 3 months with blocks of time no shorter than 4 hours
- Primary availability during IRC business hours (M-F; 8:30am-5:00pm)

What is Vive Peru? Vive Peru is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering an understanding of Latin American and Peruvian culture as well as providing much--‐ needed aid to Peruvian communities. Read more about us on our website at www.viveperu.org.
What will you get with Vive Peru? A professional internship experience in your area of interest while giving back to local communities in Peru! We have staff on the ground year--‐ round. In addition, we only work in Northern Peru, so our programs are developed with the local culture and realities in mind. With us, you’ll get an immersive cultural and Spanish language experience by living with a host family and working in with local Peruvian professionals in clinics, hospitals, schools, and orphanages. On weekends you will also have the opportunity to travel around to visit other Peruvian cities and see all the wonderful fair Peru has to offer! You can even take a trip to visit one of the historic site of Machu Picchu!
What does it cost? The program costs $1,800. This fee covers all of your housing, food, transportation in Peru, staff support and supplies during the program dates.

Academic Skills Tutoring
Academic Skills Tutors (ASTs) are current UA students who have been at the UA for at least a year. They are able to meet with students one-on-one to discuss the transition to UA. Students can drop-in or make appointments to go over anything from getting involved on campus to effective study strategies. Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is weekly study sessions led by students who have previously taken the course and received an A or B. SI Leaders attend class and meet with professors to ensure SI sessions cover the important course concepts, predict and practice test material, develop test prep strategies and discuss readings.
