Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
This week, our wonderful leadership students kicked off a food drive to support the Meadow Park Food Pantry. You may or may not be aware that we have an onsite food pantry that serves the students of Meadow Park. This pantry is utilized by many students and families throughout the year and our counselors regularly take students to it before weekends or breaks to ensure all children who attend Meadow Park have meals each day. Right now, our stock of high interest food items is running a bit low.
The leadership class came up with a wonderful idea for food pantry bingo. The items on the bingo card in the article below are those items that tend to go quickly. I hope that your students brought the bingo card home this week and we are able to fill the pantry with food for our Meadow Park families in need. As a small token of appreciation for those who participate, completed bingos will be rewarded at our PARK store next Friday, January 25th. Remind your students to turn in their food items to their advisory teacher and bring their bingo cards to lunch to claim their prize.
Next week is our final week of the first semester here at Meadow Park. We are looking forward to celebrating that with the students this coming Friday afternoon. If you have any questions or concerns about grades, please don't hesitate to reach out to our staff and ask.
Make it a great week!
Jared Freeman
Principal

Numbered Heads Together - AVID Strategy Highlight
Numbered Heads is an AVID strategy that allows students to become conversant in the content before needing to answer aloud. For example, students seated in a group of four in class will number off one, two, three and four. The teacher then poses a question to the class that they are to discuss at their table. Once students have been given sufficient time to discuss the question or requested statement, the teacher picks one of the four numbers. Any student that was assigned that number is to stand. The teacher will ask some or all of the standing students to report out to the whole class what their table group discussed. The beauty of this strategy is that students are able to discuss the material with their peers before being put on the spot to share out to the whole class. This strategy provides the necessary scaffolds for students needing additional clarification as well as allowing students who know the material to share their deep thinking with their peers. It's a win-win for everyone.
Food Donations NEEDED - Let's fill up our MP Food Pantry!
Our counseling team runs our food pantry. Counselors routinely take students and families through the food pantry whenever they are in need. We could use your support to help replenish this much needed resource! We are getting ready to kick off a food fundraiser, and we can use YOUR help!
Our most requested items have been placed on a BINGO card. When students bring in items off the BINGO card, they will get that item marked off on their card, and when they have gotten a BINGO, they can earn prizes at the PARK store. There will also be a big prize for filling out the whole card!
We hope this will be a fun way to help replenish our food pantry and come together as a community to help support one another! Here is an example of what the BINGO cards will look like. We are hoping to get this going next week, and have all food collected by the 24th of January!
We are so appreciative of our generous community, and all you do to help support our students and families!
