Declaring War on Japan
On December 8, 1941, after President Roosevelt's speech asking Congress to go to war on Japan, the House voted 388 to 1. In return Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S., making the U.S. allies with Britain, France, and the Soviet Union.
Rapid Mobilization
On January 1942, FDR created the War Production Board. The WPB called for factories to switch to bomb, plane, or tank production. FDR created several more agencies to oversee production efforts.
The amount of spending on defense led to the end of the Great Depression. By 1944, American production levels exceeded that of all the Axis powers put together
The Production Miracle
Massive defense spending finally ended the Great Depression. Companies like Ford put all of their resources into production for war. This dropped the unemployment rate and became a huge advantage to the Axis powers
