JSE Tracks

Principal's Weekly News March 9th

Keeping you informed of all the "tracks" we make at school and in our community!

JSE monthly attributes:

Characteristic of a Successful Learner (CSL): Self-Advocate

Bucket-Filling Trait: Acceptance

It's a Marvelous Monday at JSE!

Happy the SUN is Shining! Students were full of spirit coming into the schoolhouse this morning and leaving this afternoon! Recess was enjoyed without layers:) Classroom learning was energetic!

Our Random Act of Kindness chains are growing and March is Disabilities Awareness Month. Classrooms will celebrate our bucket-filling trait learning about Disabilities Awareness. I have included information on the month in a link above. This year's theme is "Love Where You Live."

Engaged Learners: We do an excellent job at JSE attending to student interests in our learning of academic standards. Research has identified student engagement as having three equally important components (The Washington Post, 10/29/13):

Behavioral engagement: Are students getting their work done on time, are they participating in class discussions, do they follow school rules?

Emotional engagement: Are students feeling excited about being in class, are they genuinely interested in the lessons?

Cognitive engagement: Are they actively trying to apply the knowledge they learn in one class to other classes and to life outside of school, and are they using metacognitive strategies?

Last Friday our 5th graders were highly engaged in learning in our cafeteria! And in my observations, I could answer "YES" to all of the questions above. The final product of delicious cookies was a bonus for us all! Thank you parent volunteers!

We encourage our 3rd graders to do their best on I-READ3 this Thursday and Friday! Mrs. Stokes and Mr. Dobitz have sent home information in Thursday Folders and in student agendas. Parents please ensure your child gets the proper rest the night before and a healthy breakfast each day.

Have a great week!

Leigh Barnes

Mr. Dickey, Mrs. Alonzo, Mrs. Bellovary, and the JSE teachers have planned a night to showcase the talents of our JSE students in all areas of our schoolhouse!
