Principal Walder's Wednesday Memo
For the Week of January 2nd
One Word for a New Year
I tell you this all because my Dad's daily life may not have looked that enjoyable to the outside person with varying grain prices and unhealthy bottle calves-- nothing was guaranteed. Still, he chose that is was going to be a good day- every day. Now, he may have been dreading one more scoop of grain and the backache that came with it, but he never let on to us kids. Dad started the days the intention that it was "going to be a beautiful day."
When I was thinking of my "one word" for 2019, Dad's song came to mind. Even though the school year started with a one-word activity, our profession gives us the unique opportunity to look at many points of the year as new and I encourage you to look at the second semester with the same intentionality.
For 2019, my word is Priority. My Dad chose that each day was going to be a good day and even sang about it. He prioritized a positive attitude. I want to focus on keeping an intentional priority each day, each quarter, and through the rest of our semester together at Legacy and at home with my family. I shared this with my husband and the Legacy team as we start this new semester together.
As you move into the New Year, I invite you to review your one word from the start of the school year. What do you want to be intentional about for the rest of the school year? If it is a great word, keep with it! If you need to shift your focus, shift your direction to what you need for the rest of the year. Chose that one word, write it down on your desk or planner, make it your screen saver, and share it with your friends, family or colleagues.
What is your one word?
