April 8th - 12th
Highlights from our week:
Shared Reading - This week our class read the story "I Wish I Could Fly" by Ron Maris. This story included matching animals to their actions and sound words. Students did a matching activity on Seesaw and will read and record various sound words next week. We also created a watercolor turtle to be displayed at our concert in May.
Writing - 1st Grade has moved into the Persuasive writing unit. This week students worked on writing about their favorite season or holiday. Some students combined both of these ideas. Students wrote an introductory sentence about their choice, three supporting reasons, and a conclusion.
Social Studies - This week our class investigated maps and the directions: north, south, east, and west. Students worked together to read maps and identify which directions to use to go from one place to another.
Math - This week our class worked on identifying and utilizing addition and subtraction strategies. Students worked with word problems using various equation structures. Some of the structures we are working on are listed below:
11+ 3 = ?
? - 3 = 11
14 - ? = 11
Our class also took a quiz on these concepts and will take the unit test next week.
