Panther Digest
Prairie View Elementary - August 2023
Principal's Note
Dear Prairie View School Community,
I hope this first newsletter finds you all in good health and high spirits as we begin another exciting school year. It fills me with great joy to say that I am entering my 5th year as a principal of Prairie View, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have each and every one of you as a part of our school community.
Yesterday marked our first day back in the building together, and what a great day it was! The energy, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn were palpable throughout the school. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been hard at work preparing for this day, and it was heartwarming to see our students return with smiles on their faces.
This year, our theme is "Better Together," a sentiment that underscores the importance of collaboration and unity within our school community. It reminds us that when we work together, support one another, and value our unique strengths and perspectives, we can achieve remarkable things. I am confident that by embracing this theme, we will create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
As we officially kick of the 2023-2024 school year, I want to extend my warmest welcome to both our returning students and those who are joining us for the first time. I encourage all of you to take advantage of opportunities to be active participants in our school community.
Thank you for being part of the Prairie View family. I am excited about the possibilities that await us, and I am confident that, together, we will make this a year filled with growth, joy, and meaningful experiences.
Here's to a fantastic 2023-2024 school year!
Warm Regards,
Valerie Vos, Principal

Elementary Math Pilot
Our district is constantly engaged in a process to determine the curriculum and materials that will best prepare students to become college and career ready by the end of their high school experience. Beginning two years ago, a group of Kindergarten-Grade 5 mathematics teachers reviewed our current mathematics curriculum and the current materials being used. This process included examining trends in achievement data, current educational research, evolving standards and expectations, and the specific needs of our district.
During the 2023-2024 school year, we will be piloting and reviewing new materials in some of our classrooms. Your child will be part of the pilot of new materials during the 2023-24 school year.
The district has chosen three resources to pilot, but each classroom will be piloting only two of those resources, one resource during the 1st trimester of the year and another resource the 2nd trimester. The pilot materials are enVision, iReady, and Bridges. All three resources come with the highest rating from EdReports, a national company that audits resources and rates them for effectiveness and quality. Your child's teacher will communicate which resources are being piloted in your child's classroom.
As staff begin to incorporate the pilot materials, please know that the high-quality of math education will not be compromised in your child's classroom. Students will continue to be taught all necessary grade-level standards that will prepare them for the following year.
After the piloting phase, the teachers will make a recommendation to the School Board for an adoption of new materials. Ultimately, the School Board will review and approve the texts that will be purchased.
We appreciate your child's participation in this pilot and your feedback. If you have any specific questions or concerns about your child's math this year, please feel free to contact your child's teacher. If you have questions about the pilot process in math or the three chosen pilot resources, please contact Stephanie Blue, MASD director of student learning, by phone (262-363-6300) or email ( bluest@masd.k12.wi.us).
Sincerely,
Stephanie Blue

We will continue to use PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) to encourage respectful, responsible, and safe behavior at Prairie View. The students will spend time reviewing and being taught the expectations throughout the school building. Please see our school-wide expectations here.
Registration Fees
The district will have a grace period waiving the service fee assessed to parents for online payments made now through September 30, 2023.
Reporting a Change in Pick Up
If you need to let the school know of a different plan for pick up for a day, please:
- Send a note that includes your child's full name
- The date
Students are not able to ride bus routes home with other students without prior approval from Dousman Transport. Please reach out to Dousman Transport and then send a note with your child stating that Dousman Transport approved this change in schedule for the day.
If you the change comes after the day begins, please email Mrs. Rice (riceta@masd.k12.wi.us)
and Mrs. Dudek (dudekan@masd.k12.wi.us). The classroom teacher's main responsibility once the school day starts is to educate and care for your children. As a result, they may not always read emails during the school day once it begins. Contacting the office will ensure that we get your communication about a change in going home.
Wednesday, Early Release @ 2:35 PM
EVERY WEDNESDAY, starting Wednesday, September 6, 2023 students will be released one hour early for teachers to receive staff development and training.
