A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Decatur Township Families,

As we begin the month of September, we are Decatur Proud to see that students have learned and adjusted to classroom and school schedules and routines. Staff are working hard each day to teach and support students. September is School Attendance Awareness Month. Attending school every day increases students' chances of success in school and life. Each day counts with lessons and activities that build skills and knowledge. Let’s set our students up for success by starting with good school attendance!

Congratulations to Hawks QB Bo Polston for winning the “Indy Star Player of the Week Poll” for his performance last Friday against New Palestine, contributing to a great team win! THANK YOU Decatur Township for voting and supporting our DC Hawks! We also celebrated the opening of the Decatur Central Career Center last Friday August 25th, with a ceremony and community open house. Thank you to our School Board Members for their support, marking the occasion by cutting the ribbon. Also thank you to community members, teachers, students, and administrators for attending and supporting the DCCC. The Decatur Central Career Center is an extension of DCHS and DTSE, housing programs for construction, manufacturing, agriculture science, and health sciences. You can read more about the exciting opportunities provided for our students below.

MSD of Decatur Township is proud to partner with the Goodwin Center to support our community. Look for opportunities at a different school or schools each month to “pack the pantry,” by donating non-perishable food items to the Goodwin Center food bank. Decatur Central High School will be collecting food items during this month to support the effort.

As a reminder, schools will be closed this Monday, September 4th, in observance of Labor Day. We wish all students, families, and staff a restful and happy Labor Day. September 4th-8th is National Substitute Teacher Appreciation Week. We partner with Kelly Services to provide skilled substitute teachers across the district, and are grateful for each and every one of them! If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher, please go to decaturproud.org for more information. Please mark your calendars that October 4th is Parent Teacher Conference Day, district-wide, and there will be no school. Conferences are an ideal time to build the school-home relationship and communicate for student success. Look for information from your child’s school to schedule your conference, coming soon.

Together we are Decatur Proud!
