Royal Decree
End of Year Edition 2020
Reflections of our Royals
I have been in education nearly 20 years. The final day of school always serves as a source of reflection. This year as I reflect on the 2019-2020 school year, I know it will be one I always remember.
I will remember it for the obvious reasons that have transpired these past two months, but I will also remember it for many other reasons.
- I will remember the eager and nervous smiles of our youngest Royals entering kindergarten for the first time and the amount of growth that I observed in them.
- I will remember the fifth graders transition from typical elementary aged students to making that jump to middle school ready and independent students.
- I will remember the culture of readers we worked to create and cultivate with our inaugural "One District, One Book" launch of "The Chocolate Touch."
- I will remember the positive attitudes, resilience and grit our Royals demonstrated in the face of adversity, the unknown, and cancelled plans.
- I will remember the hard work and dedication from each of our staff members as they quickly transitioned to an instructional remote learning platform.
- I will remember the smiles, waves, and signs on our Royal Parade through subdivisions and the happy faces of our fifth graders as signs were delivered to their front yards.
- I will remember and cherish each hug and high five.
With Love for our Royals,
Mrs. Ellis

Maternity Leave
At this time, Mrs. Stefanie Pitzer will serve as the Substitute Principal until the completion of my maternity leave. Mrs. Pitzer has served as a long time 2nd grade teacher at Dunlap Grade School and is currently an Instructional Coach for our district. She has her administrative/principal endorsement and is qualified to serve in my absence. I will send a separate communication with her contact information and transition details at a later date. Until then, feel free to direct all questions and concerns to me over the summer months.
Fall 2020 Updates
As new information becomes available, updates will continue to be shared electronically via email and video from either DGS or the District Office and Dr. Dearman.
Yearbooks and Spring Pictures
Thank you to Kristy McMenamy and Tammy Risinger for their creation and coordination of the 2019-2020 yearbook.
Title 1 Summer School
We will hold an online Title I modified summer school this summer. Invitations have been sent to students who received Title I intervention in reading and/or math this school year. This program is made possible through the district’s Federal Title I Grant.
Following direction from the Illinois State Board of Education as well as other government agencies, summer school will be held online this year. The program will be during the weeks of July 13, July 20 and July 27 and will include remote instruction from dedicated summer school teachers. District Chromebooks will be provided for your student’s use.
