ALVORD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Distrito Escolar Unificado de Alvord

January 15, 2023
A Message from the Superintendent
Our schools and district offices are closed tomorrow, January 16, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service. MLK Day is the only federal holiday that is also designated by Congress as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.”
Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community. If you have the opportunity tomorrow to participate in some of the many events throughout the Inland Empire your contribution will go a long way towards realizing Dr. King's dream.
APPLY TO THE CITIZEN'S BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE (CBOC)
We are seeking applicants to serve on our Measure J Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. Members of the committee are responsible for informing the public and the Alvord Board of Education about the expenditure of bond proceeds for Measure J. The committee meets quarterly to ensure bond projects are in alignment with project plans. Annually, the CBOC provides a written report summarizing the committee’s proceedings and activities.
If you are interested in learning more about the CBOC, please email CBOC@alvordschools.org with your questions. Applications will be available on the CBOC web site beginning January 20, 2023. I'll regularly update the process in my weekly messages.

SCHOOL SAFETY WEEKLY UPDATE
Our efforts to maintain and promote discipline, order, and safety focus on both preventive and responsive measures. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidenced-based tiered framework we utilize to support students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. Our objective is to improve students' academic and social emotional competence by creating positive and supportive school climates. It improves teacher and staff health and wellbeing too. Providing predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives is our ultimate goal. Learn more about the framework in the brief video below.
