Scholarship season is ramping up ... and so is the end of the year AP/IB exams and finals ... yes, I said it, graduation is closer than you think ;)
How to Prioritize Your Life:
- March = Apply to as many scholarships as possible whose deadlines are from March to May. Focus now on scholarships so you can make your best decision on your future college/ trade school.
- April = Savor that last high school spring break and then study hard for exams >> No exams for you?? > Jealous & Awesome!
- May 1st = Time to decide [if you have not already] WHERE AM I GOING next year!!!

You need to fill out one of the following to receive scholarships, grants, work study, and/or loans from the state of California and the national government to cover your tuition and college expenses. DEADLINE IS TUESDAY, MARCH 2nd 2021
Every Community College in California gives FREE tuition as long as you Submit Your Financial Aid Application and it does NOT matter how much money the parents/guardians do or do not make. It is called The Promise Grant.
FAFSA Who fills out FAFSA? Citizens, Eligible Non-Citizens: US National, US Permanent resident, Refugee, Asylum Granted, T-Visa
CADAA California Dream Act: Who fills out CADAA? Students under DACA, are undocumented and do not hold a valid non-immigrant visa (F, J, H, L, A, B, C, D, E, etc.)

- Submit your Application (How to Apply)
- Set up Your "MyVCCCD" Portal (How to Set Up)
- Complete Your Online Orientation (How to Complete)
- Complete Your English Self-Placement Assessment (How to Complete - NO math)
- Accept your Financial Aid Package (How to Complete - once it has been awarded)
Once those steps are completed, you are eligible to attend the MC Preview Day =
- Meet with a Counselor
- Complete your Education plan
- Create your fall semester schedule
Attend 1 of these events (SELECT THE CORRECT DAY/TIME ON REGISTRATION)
REGISTER Tuesday 3/23 @4:00pm
REGISTER Thursday 4/1 @9:30am
After your MC Preview Day = you are now eligible to register for classes in early May.
If you do not complete all of the above steps, you will not receive this early registration date.

"If we have the 2021-2022 FAFSA/CADAA & the student qualifies for CCPG (California College Promise Grant) it’s already awarded, visible to them on their portal, & they already were emailed an award letter at the my.vcccd.edu email with the information.
If the student will qualify for the Moorpark Promise these awards happen generally in July once we receive funding from the state. The student can contact our office in early July before the payment comes due or can contact our office now at 805-378-1462 to discuss if they appear to be eligible for the Moorpark Promise."

- Update your College Applications by selecting "Applied, Accepted, Denied, Deferred, Waitlisted"
- Delete any colleges you did not apply to. If you cannot delete it, email me and I will delete it for you bhong@conejousd.org
- If you applied to Moorpark College, make sure that is in your list of applications
- Update the 1 College you will be attending (SO WE KNOW WHERE TO SEND YOUR FINAL TRANSCRIPT)

Criteria: Selection is based on financial need, demonstrated scholastic ability, community involvement, leadership and/or work history and determination to succeed.

Eligibility: Graduating seniors, in the current year, or previous high school graduates, who are children or dependents of UACT members, and are planning to enroll in a post-secondary institution (i.e. college, junior college, trade school, etc.) in the Fall.

American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) CA ChapterApplications are due to the local Chapter by March 7th, 2021. Award: $1,000 - $5,000 Eligibility: Graduating high school senior with unweighted 3.0 GPA; intends to enroll next semester in an accredited college or university; pursuing a business, one of the physical sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics field; underrepresented minority (African Americans, Hispanic or Native Americans) Criteria: Complete application on https://scholarship.aabe.org/ | Italian Catholic Federation First Year College ScholarshipThe applicant’s completed packet should be mailed to the I.C.F. Central Council Office and received not later than March 15, 2021. Award: $400 Eligibility: Total cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 and meet all of the requirements in either #1 or #2:

Are Roman Catholic and of Italian Descent and live only where Branches of the Federation are established. OR
If either Roman Catholic parent or grandparent is a member of the ICF. applicant must be Roman Catholic but need not be of Italian Descent.
Criteria: Scholastic achievement, personal statement, transcript, letter of recommendation, financial need, leadership, extra-curricular activities, family membership/activities in the I.C.F. (if applicable.) Complete application https://www.icf.org/scholarships/
Conejo Chinese Cultural Association (CCCA)
Due March 31, 2020
Award: $500
Eligibility: Unweighted GPA of 3.5, attended Thousand Oaks Chinese School for at least 5 years, completed at least 8th grade in Thousand Oaks Chinese School, admitted to at least a 2 or 4 years college or university.
Criteria: Completed application form along with the essay, and a copy of your high school transcript.

It's a two-step process:
1. Application and Signatures
the student, along with
the parent/guardian and
employer must fill out the B1-1 form: “Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit-Certificate of Age” and submit to the College and Career Center
California Work Permit APPLICATION Form: “Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit-Certificate of Age” https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/dlseformB1-1.pdf
2. Processing:
- The school reviews the completed and signed B1-1 form and issues the B1-4 (Work Permit). Processing time usually takes 2 business days.
Procedure when school is in Virtual session:
1. Print and fill out Work Permit form, above2. Collect necessary signatures
3. Convert to PDF using a scanner or phone
4. Email completed form to Ms. Tuell at ttuell@conejousd.org
5. Return the processed work permit to your employer
- Processing Time: Two - three business days
