Mrs. K's Music Corner
6.0 Edition
Welcome to Music Class!
We've done so much so far now that we're back to a daily related arts schedule! Singing, playing instruments, dancing and more! Below you'll find a performance schedule for the year. Every student has some sort of performance or event this year so check that out so you can put the dates on your calendars. Look below for some fun lessons and activities that have been happening in the music classroom! I'm really excited for the year and what we'll achieve together!
Xylophoning Fun!
A few weeks ago, 2nd graders learned a xylophone part that goes along with the song "A Dinosaur Ate My Lunch!"
Charlie Over the Ocean
1st grade practicing steady beat with maracas.
Say Cheese!
Kindergartners dancing and striking a pose to the song "Say Cheese!"
Tin Foil Notation
This is always one of my favorite lessons every year that I do with 2nd-4th. Students learn about music notation by making it with tin foil. 2nd & 3rd grade focused on notes & rests while 4th graders focused on dynamics.

3rd & 4th Gr Veterans Day Performance
We're excited to be back in full swing with our performances this year! Our Veterans Day Performance is moving back to during the day on November 10th at 8:30am. All 3rd & 4th grade students will be performing together along with the 3rd & 4th grade choir. We will be adding a special muffin breakfast after the performance for Veterans and their families. Please be on the look out for an RSVP for the Veteran breakfast next month. I will also need a lot of adult volunteers the week of to help with set up, organization, preparation etc. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please email me jkoenig@hse.k12.in.us I will also be sending out a sign up genius in October that will include those that already signed up and the spots still vacant. Thank you for your help and support in advance! I'll send out more details for this performance next month. Thanks!
Calling all 3rd & 4th grade Snare Drum Players!
I would like to add some snare drum players to the Veterans Day Performance. Please email me if your student/s take percussion lessons and/or has snare drum experience. Thanks! Mrs. K jkoenig@hse.k12.in.us

Becoming Bach
Johann Sebastion Bach
Every year I like to feature many musicians, dancers, composers, and conductors from around the world. I decided for our first feature I'd go back to my classical roots and present the story "Becoming Bach." All students learned about Johann Sebastian Bach. One of his main instruments was the pipe organ so I found this really cool behind the scenes video of a pipe organ in Chicago. Next lesson will be featuring the wonderful Nina Simone.
