April Shaw Shine Award
Each month, Shaw Elementary picks a "Shine Award" Winner. This ONE student is chosen over all the others in the whole school to receive this special award.
CONGRATULATIONS to Jade Young for being April's Shine Award winner! Jade is a great leader in our school and shows all of our good character traits.
Way to go Jade!
Please read the following write-up from Jade's teacher who nominated her.....
Responsible and Trustworthy
Jade demonstrates responsibility when it comes to taking care of her classroom. She is one of the first people to clean up the classroom putting things away that were left out by others. Jade is very honest and trustworthy. When the teacher has a special task or errand, she knows she can trust Jade to help out and complete the task.
Caring and Fairness
Her classmates can see how much Jade cares for them. She is eager to help others be problem solvers. When someone is upset, she willingly gives hugs and words of encouragement. They also like to play games with her because she always plays fair. Jade is a good sport and does not get upset when she loses a game. She continues to show kindness and use positive words when playing with others.
Jade comes to school with a smile and is eager to learn. She is a little ray of sunshine in our day. Thank you for your hard work and being a person of character. Keep up the good work!

Attendance Do's and Don'ts
- DON'T forget to report an absence to the office! Call 937-429-7610, option 1 OR email shawattendance@gocreek.org. If the absence is not reported by 9:30am then our automated calling system automatically pulls the info of anyone we have not heard from yet.
- DO keep your student home until they are 24 hour symptom free, without medication.
- DON'T forget to get a doctor's note and turn it into the Shaw office when your student visits the doctor during school hours. Each student has 10 absences a school year that a parent can excuse, however if you get a doctor's note the absence does not count against the 10 you are allotted. Doctor notes should be turned in within 5 days of the absence.
- DO let us know in advance of any absences due to a vacation. The district is no longer using vacation request forms. Therefore, an email to shawattendance@gocreek.org is the best way to let us know about an upcoming vacation. The district excuses 10 vacation/out of town days per school year. Please note: parents only receive 10 days of absence that they can excuse. If all parent excused absences are used toward vacation, there will be none left to cover sick days.
